For the rest of the day Zero got payback for the "traumatizing" event Dazai and the others put him through. He understood it was for the re-enterence exam but it still wasn't fun.

He pranked Tanizaki and Atsushi and kept pushing Dazai's buttons any chance he could. Poking him, speaking over him, stealing his things. Minor inconveniences. Anything to throw him off.

"I'm going to cry if you tap my arm again," Dazai glanced over at Zero who was inches away from poking him. He cracked a small smile and poked Dazai once more.

Dazai began to cry. He forced fake tears out and buried his head into a pillow.

"Aww. Don't cry Dazai!" Zero wrapped his arms around him. He gently patted Dazai's head and went along with the act,"I won't poke you again."

"Yeah but-" Dazai glanced outside,"Come with me." He gently grabbed Zero's hand and stood up.

The brown haired man opened the door and led Zero outside. He smiled and pointed to the sky. The full moon hung high in the sky with stars dotted around it.

"Look. It's beautiful, right?" Dazai glanced at Zero.

Zero looked shocked,"You remembered that I liked the stars?" He didn't expect anyone to care or remember that small detail.

Dazai didn't let go of his hand.

"Of course I remembered. After all, I am Dazai, " He grinned and looked back at the stars.

During the year Zero was missing, Dazai slowly learned to find beauty in the stars. He would watch them every night that the cloud weren't covering them. He'd even marker the different moon cycles and memorized some constellations in his free time.

He said that until the star of his life came back, he would watch over the sky every night. Now, he was watching the sky with his star right by his side.

Dazai pointed out one of the constellations.

"How did you- did you study astrology?" Zero's eyes lit up with curiosity.

"A little bit. I thought it would be nice to know for when you came back. I also learned about different flowers and such," He seemed a bit embarrassed by this fact now.

Zero looked shocked, but also very happy,"You did that for me?"

Dazai nodded, turning away from Zero,"Stop making this embarrassing, Alastor."

He chuckled and kissed Dazai's cheek gently, "Sorry, Osamu."

The stars seemed to shine a little brighter after that moment.

Dazai regained his confidence and turned to Zero. He took a small breath and grabbed Zero's hand with both of his,"Alastor, will you be my boyfriend?"

This question caught Zero off guard. He stared at Dazai in shock and tried to see if he was joking or not.

Dazai Osamu was being completely serious. No jokes, no tricks.

Zero nodded a few times, failing to get the words out before finally speaking, "Yes. I will. Yes!" He tapped the fingers of his free hand to help keep himself from jumping around.

Dazai smiled widely and pulled Zero in for a kiss, which Zero returned. It was gentle and loving.

Zero pulled away and covered his face. A few tears slowly streamed down his face.

Dazai tilted his head,"Why are you crying?"

"I'm happy and shocked damnit," He laughed softly and hugged Dazai. This was the happiest he's ever been. This moment right here, was perfect.

Dazai hugged him back and smiled, a genuine smile,"I'm happy too."

He was telling the truth. Dazai was happy.

For the longest time Dazai only stared alive to fulfill Oda's final wish, after that he would kick it. Now, he found his reason to live. Alastor Ariya was that reason.

It made him tear up. The feeling in his chest grew, one he could only describe as love.

They stayed like that for a while, holding each other as the stars watched from above.
