A/N: Sorry for the lack of update on the series! But at least for tonight, here's a little sneak peak of the new series!
IT WAS CLOSE to evening when the long list of chores had finally been completed. Gilan slumped down in the seat, wiping a hand across his forehead. There. What else does he want me to do?
He found out the answer a moment later. "Do you know how to cook?" Halt asked as he entered the room.
Gilan hesitated. "My mother let me help her cook once," he said.
Halt raised an eyebrow and leaned against the counter. "So you know how to cook? Yes or no."
Gilan sighed. "No."
"Then why'd she let you cook so often?"
"She didn't." Gilan pulled a face. "She let me help her for the first and final time after I managed to burn the water, along with everything else."
A long silence filled the air, and Gilan stole a quick glance at the Ranger. He was surprised to see a glimmer of quick amusement within the dark eyes. "Alright, then. Let's see if we can fix that."
The statement became regretful not five minutes later. "How did you manage to set the chair on fire!" Halt exclaimed as he stamped on the small flames. "The cooking part hasn't even started yet!"
Gilan grimaced. "I didn't mean to! I accidentally knocked the chair over, and it fell into the chimney!"
The Ranger shook his head. "I'll do it for tonight. We'll try again tomorrow, assuming you don't manage to set the whole cabin on fire the next time."
Gilan scowled.
