Okay, I may or may not be going through Tumblr rn and copying some snippets that I bounced off of others. Anyways, this idea was from redrosearrow, and if you haven't read Escape From Falaise yet, you might want to skip this one.


"And what can a snippet like you do against someone like me?" the Baron sneered, his face flushed. Here he was, holding these two arrogant, so-called jongleurs prisoner while some child challenged him. It was preposterous.

Maddie raised her chin, her eyes flaring with indignation. "Because I'm the Princess of Araluen, second in line to the throne."

The Baron stared at her for a long moment, and then laughed, the sound echoing around the room. She remained standing, wishing that she still held her bow; it was a moment where shooting the Baron then and there seemed far more preferable.

"The time for jokes is long past, little girl." The Baron gave her a sardonic smile, as though he didn't believe a word she'd said. "I'm afraid I'll be declining your offer...unless you can offer me some proof."

She hesitated. What proof was there to show? There was no way she'd expected him to believe her, and now that she thought of it, maybe it had been a bit too impulsive to say that. She risked a quick glance at Will, who was staring at the ground, refusing to meet her gaze.

"You have three days to prove it, and then I just might consider your offer."

"And how are we supposed to do that if you keep us locked up?" she demanded, gritting her teeth.

"I suppose you'll have to figure that out on your own, Princess." The door slammed shut, and her shoulders slumped in defeat.

The silence was deafening as Maddie turned around. Will looked up at her, his face neutral, but even she could see the fury gleaming from his eyes.

"Will," she said, holding up her hands. "Just...just hear me out..."

"What on earth were you thinking?
