After On Stranger Tides, before Dead Men Tell No Tales

Jack and Annette were sitting at a tavern together in Tortuga, mingling amongst the other pirates. They were talking to a couple of men who had been there since the sun was up. They had introduced themselves as Clive and Harry. Jack and Annette were trying to find their next heading, which turned into a discussion on the untimely demise of Captain Samuel Bellamy.

Annette was still unaware of her true beginnings of being the daughter of the English pirate. The only father she knew was Olivier Levasseur, who was all she needed. She did not have the desire to figure out who she used to be, mostly because she could never know for certain.

"They say that his daughter is still out there," one of the men, Clive, said. His dark hair was in a ratty ponytail, and his clothes were a little worse for the wear.

"Oh, what was her name?" Harry asked, bringing a tankard to his lips.

"Maria Elizabeth Bellamy," Clive answered. The name founded vaguely familiar to Annette, like she has heard it once long ago.

"That's right."

This sparked Jack's interest. He set his tankard down and asked, "again?"

"You remember old Captain Bellamy, right, son?" Clive asked.

"Aye," Jack said and tugged on Annette's coat to make sure she was listening.

"Well, when his ship crashed, they never found the body of his daughter, Maria," Clive said.

"She could very well could have been lost at sea," Harry said logically.

"Perhaps," Clive shrugged, "everyone in that 145-men crew perished but two. Both said that they pulled Miss Bellamy up from the ruins, only to find her missing the next morning."

"What happened to the men?" Annette asked.

"They were sentenced to death," Clive revealed.

"Pardon me, me good man, but where exactly was Bellamy's ship found?" Jack asked.

"Cape Cod," Harry answered, "over at the colonies."

Jack turned to Annette and asked, "that's where you were found, eh?"

Annette knew where this was going. She said, "I think that I would remember if my father was Captain Samuel Bellamy. Don't you?"

"Think about it, me dear, you and Captain Bellamy have the same methods of captain-ing, and you do look quite similar in fact," Jack pointed out.

"How would you know?" She asked.

"I've met him," Jack snarked.

"Did you meet his daughter?" Annette asked.

Jack's eyebrows came together as he was thinking and he said, "once... I believe."

"So you tell me," Annette held her arms out in a grand gesture and asked, "am I her?"

"You have to remember, this was over thirty years ago. I was young, and she was young—or, you were young."

"You are Maria?" Harry asked her with wide eyes.

"No!" Annette quickly shut it down, not believing it for a second. "I am not. As far as I know, I am Annette Levasseur."

"I do believe it is quite possible that you are Maria, love," Jack said softly.

"You're not going to believe a couple of drunk pirates, are you?" Annette asked in a low voice.

Jack looked slightly offended, "you always believe me."

Annette chuckled, "don't be so naive. I will never find out who I was, and that's okay. Who I truly am, is Annette Levasseur. I belong on the Pearl, with you."

"That you do," Jack chuckled and put his arm around her shoulders. He ordered the table another round, and they went back to talking about their next adventure.

Harry slurred, "I wish my crew was as close as the two of you. Perhaps we could have actually made it to the Treasure of Macedonia."

"The Treasure of Macedonia?" Jack repeated intriguingly, "have you been there?"

Both of the drunken pirates shook their heads.

Clive revealed, "but we know how to get there."

Jack smirked and thanked the waitress who came by with the full tankards of booze and shoved it in the pirates hands, preparing to trick them to obtain their heading.
