Annette's POV
We had been sailing for a few days when I looked over the edge of the taffrail to see majestic bottlenose dolphins bopping in and out of the waves. The sky was a light blue, and the air was very warm.
Jack came up beside me and said in a low voice, "we are at the Mediterranean Sea."
The pod of bottle nose dolphins bounced in and out of the water in their characteristic fashion, projecting their joy. The whistles of the dolphins gave off a pleasant, warbling sound, similar to the cheep of a canary.
I left the taffrail and walked over to my pot that was still full of the mixture I made earlier. I took a ladle and put it in the liquid and gave it a sniff, immediately wanting to gag. I've smelled worse, but not much worse.
"Jack," I looked up at him, "should we drink this now?"
Jack nodded, but flared his nostrils in disgust. Jack held up a finger, making me pause as I put the ladle up to my lips. He called out, "Larry!"
The crew all looked around at each other in confusion, and Jack pointed to one of the crew members that I never learned the name of. The pirate stepped forward and said, "my name is not Larry."
Jack looked at him carelessly and said, "I don't care."
Not-Larry walked up to us and Jack took the ladle out of my hands to give it to Not-Larry. Not-Larry grabbed the ladle, and drank it hesitantly. He made a sour face, but he did not die.
"I think we're good," Jack said with a pleased smile. He took the ladle back and took a sip, then passed it off to the next pirate. We passed it around until the pot was completely empty.
"Tastes like salt water," I said, spitting off the side of the ship to get the taste out of my mouth. I wiped my hands off on my black waist coat, which was loose over my maroon shirt.
"I don't feel any different," Jack said, looking down at his hands. "Do I look any different?"
"You still look like an arse to me."
Jack's face humorously dropped, but he was not able to respond to my comment because of a low rumbling that began to shake the ship. Jack's eyebrows raised, disappearing behind his bandanna.
My eyes narrowed as I tried to figure out what was going on. I raced over the edge of the ship and saw the ocean water begin to rise over the hull.
I turned and said to my crew, "grab whatever you can! The ship is sinking!"
Gibbs shouted, "prepare to drown!"
I hooked my arm around the taffrail, as did many of the crew. I felt the water leak onto the deck, covering my boots. Jack was gripping the rigging near me, and the deck sank to the water level. We continued to sink, and the yelling ceased when people began to get submerged in the water.
I felt the water rush over my head, and I squeezed my eyes shut. When I was completely underwater, my eyes did not sting when I opened them, but they usually do. I held my breath as I looked up and we continued to sink until we reached the bottom of the ocean. I looked around at my crew, still hugging the ship as we continued to fall.
I bit my lips together as my lungs begged to breathe. My chest was cramping and my vision began to darken as my body started to shut down as the oxygen exited my brain. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I screamed. I quickly covered my mouth with my hand so no other air could escape. I turned around and Jack was floating beside me. Sounding slightly muffled, I heard him say, "we can breathe."
I waited until I saw his chest dip up and down before I finally let myself breathe. The water turned to oxygen in my mouth, and filling my lungs as if they were gills. The disgusting potion I had to make was essential for breathing underwater. However, I did not know how long it would take to wear off.
When the ship landed on the ocean floor, it caused a cloud of silt to come up before settling back down to the ocean floor like a heavy curtain. We all let go of the ship and swam to the deck. We could all hear each other clearly, but our hair and clothes floated around us like gravity didn't exist.
"What now?" Gibbs asked.
Jack said, "there." I looked up at him and noticed that he was pointing behind me. I turned back, and saw an underwater city.
I saw ancient buildings of stone, covered in seaweed and algae but it was beautiful. The architecture was similar to what I've seen in Greece many years ago. Colorful tropical fish swam around the long-abandoned city, proclaiming its new purpose.
I stayed gazing at the underwater city, absolutely amazed by its beauty. I asked in astonishment, "what is this place?"
Jack floated over to me and I felt his hands grip my shoulders and he lowered his head by my ear. Even in water, he still gave me chills. He said, "my darling, you found the Lost City of Atlantis."
