wooyoung sighed. does he really have to kill his soulmate?
relax, you're not confirmed soulmates yet. a little voice inside his head said. but... the voice sounded different from the usual voice wooyoung heard.
he tried his best to recall that voice and he remembered: it was none other than choi san's voice.
"fuck!" wooyoung groaned into his hands. it's common knowledge that once you've met your soulmate, you wouldn't be confirmed soulmates yet. however, once you hear your soulmate's voice inside your head, then it's practically confirmed you two are soulmates.
honestly, whoever decided that jung wooyoung and choi san are soulmates could go die.
feeling very, very frustrated, wooyoung decided to call on an old friend just to rant to him about all these problems. these don't even seem like problems if wooyoung don't look at them as problems, but to him, it's a big issue if the person he's appointed to kill is his fucking soulmate.
"pick up, pick up." wooyoung muttered as the receiver had not picked up his phone yet. when the beeping sounds finally went away, wooyoung bounced up from his sofa excitedly, "hyung!"
the person on the other side groaned, "why are you phoning me? i was just going to get some sleep."
wooyoung glanced at the clock, "it's two pm, hyung."
"and i'm park seonghwa. anyways, why are you phoning me?" seonghwa said annoyingly. wooyoung rolled his eyes despite knowing that seonghwa wouldn't see him.
"you know that guy i need to kill?" wooyoung asked. seonghwa hummed and the younger continued talking, "i met him this morning."
seonghwa gasped. looks like he's not sleepy anymore. "and? you're coming back already? man, i thought i'd be without you for a couple more days."
"i said i met him, i didn't say i killed him. but hyung-"
"then what are you waiting for? just go kill him already. come on, we can use that money from park junwong to get some-"
"he's my soulmate, hyung." wooyoung interrupted seonghwa. a moment of silence passed by with only the sound of wooyoung biting his nails being heard. seonghwa's breathing suddenly became uneven and wooyoung knew that his hyung was panicking.
seonghwa took a deep breath, "he's your what?"
"soulmate. he's my fucking soulmate, hyung! what am i supposed to do?" wooyoung caught himself just before his volume reached a certain point where neighbours would come complain about him. he took a few breathers to try and keep himself calm as well. but really, how can you be calm when your soulmate is someone you're hired to kill?
"i-" seonghwa started, "i don't know, wooyoung. i would still tell you to go kill him. but would that kill a part of your, uh, soul as well?"
wooyoung thought about seonghwa's question hours after their call ended. it was the truth that wooyoung should still kill choi san and get his reward money from park junwong. but there was a possibility that he's going to lose a part of his soul as well, since you and your soulmate's souls are practically tied together.
if your soulmate dies or leaves you long enough for you to start to yearn for them even after years, a huge part of your soul dies as well. that's what years of research conducted on the idea of soulmates told you. and as much as wooyoung wanted that to be fake, he knew it was true. his mother did tell him about stories of losing parts of your soul because your soulmate died.
and he saw that happening in front of his eyes when his mother tried taking her own life even years after his dad left the two to rely on each other. in the end, his mother did succeed, leaving wooyoung alone in this cruel world. that's the harsh reality of this world. you always end up dying if your soulmate leaves you, physically or emotionally. that's just how fucked-up their reality is. you always end up wanting to join with the soul once again even if you've lost them.
wooyoung didn't want that. of course, he should still kill choi san. but he didn't want to fall into depression. not again.

"yeosang!" san yelled as he went into their apartment. it was saturday and it only made sense if yeosang was at home. yeosang peeked out of his bedroom and smiled at san, "hey. were you out early just now?"
san hummed as he dumped some more black cards he stole from millionaires just now from his little trip onto their coffee table in front of their couch. yeosang stepped out of his bedroom and sighed at the sight, "again?"
san shrugged, grabbing some chocolate milk for himself in the fridge. he was pouring some into the glass as he remembered something, "mm! do you know who i met just now?"
yeosang scoffed, "uh, i don't know, kim seokjin?"
"you wish." san rolled his eyes. "no, i met my soulmate."
that caught yeosang's attention. he immediately turned towards san with his eyes wide open, "really?"
san nodded, "really."
"oh my gosh!" yeosang smiled, "i'm so happy for you! what's their name?"
san chuckled awkwardly and finished his chocolate milk, cleaning it in the sink, "that's the thing: i don't know his name."
"ooh, it's a he- what?! you don't know his name?" yeosang yelled, "you ass! that's the first thing you ask them!"
"you say that like i don't know it!" san retorted, "i asked, but they weren't willing to share it with me. plus, they saw me stealing from one of the rich guys."
yeosang's expression became unreadable, "and? did he call the cops on you? wait, when were you even out?"
san shook his head, "no, he did not call the cops on me. and i was out at 2 am, why?"
"who goes stealing from rich guys at 2 am." yeosang muttered. just as san was about to explain why he goes stealing at 2 am, yeosang glared at him, "uh-uh. i've heard it before. no need to hear it twice. anyways, have you at least got his number?"
san grinned in triumph, "as a matter of fact, i do. and i'm meeting him tomorrow at jungchundan park tomorrow at 11. i've already got myself a date."
yeosang gasped, "great job, you. i honestly couldn't care less about love but my best friend scored a date! with a guy! ugh, i'm so proud of you."
"please don't ever say that again." san cringed, "that was probably the cheesiest thing i've ever heard in my life."
yeosang chuckled, "if you're going to date someone, you're going to have to get used to hearing cheesy remarks."
"ugh, whatever, i hate you." san rolled his eyes and settled on the couch to watch a few episodes on netflix.
"the feeling's mutual!" yeosang yelled back as he walked back into his bedroom. san shook his head, a little grin on his face, as he clicked start on the new episode.
