The only thing Lindsey wished for coming home was to find Cheri asleep. After everything that had just happened with Stevie, he didn't want to have to argue with his actual girlfriend as well. What Stevie yelled at him, while he was running out of her house, was true. He was scared to let her get too close, because he did still love her. That was never going to go away, no matter how much they'd put each other through over the years. What was the worst part, was that they didn't just have sex. It felt different, it was different. Lindsey was used to a quick, passionate session in his or hers dressing, hotel room, even a fierce kiss, stolen off each other's lips somewhere in a dark corner in the backstage of a venue. He didn't want to get used to sharing something so emotional with Stevie.
Walking into his house, Lindsey breathed a sigh of relief. He was surrounded by darkness and quiet, he couldn't wait to get in bed and close his eyes. He was emotionally and physically drained. However, as he was making his way past the living room of his expensive mansion, he was stopped, dead in his tracks, by Cheri's voice.
"Do you know, what time it is?"
Lindsey gulped and took a step in her direction. Hearing her speak, while he couldn't see her, gave off an eerie vibe. He blindly searched for the light switch and flipped it.
"I know that it's late, I'm sorry. I didn't expect to be gone for so long." Lindsey replied, hoping that was a good enough answer.
"Had a lot to talk about?" Cheri raised an eyebrow, looking at him, holding a wine glass in her hand.
"Uh, sure." Lindsey nodded. "I haven't seen Stevie in a while."
"Mm. What did you talk about?"
"Cheri, can we not do this?" He sighed. "I'm exhausted and I'd just prefer to go to bed."
"Exhausted from what exactly?"
"It's late, well, it's morning already." Lindsey corrected himself. "I've been up for nearly twenty four hours."
Keeping her lips sealed, Cheri slowly rose to her feet and approached him. Lindsey stood with his hands by his sides, looking at her, trying to figure out, what she was doing.
"You smell of her."
"Well, of course." Lindsey shrugged it off. "We hugged, when I arrived."
Cheri shook her head, making a disgusted face. "You stink of sex."
"Right. I'm off to bed." Lindsey turned to leave, but Cheri grasped him by the wrist.
"Admit it!"
He quickly twisted his arm around and was the one, grabbing onto her wrist. "Don't yell at me." Their faces were inches apart, Lindsey's eyes wide and mean.
"You're hurting me."
"Stop accusing me then." There was a warning in Lindsey's voice, he then let her go.
"What does she have that I don't?" Cheri shouted, following after him. "You'll never find happiness if you keep going back to her! She's ruined your life, she's ruined you as a person and you still crawl back to her!"
Lindsey abruptly turned around, causing Cheri to almost bump into him. "Watch your mouth." His fingers closed around her throat as she stared up at him with fear in her eyes.
"You're a sorry ass alcoholic!" She spat at him again, once he let go of her. "I should have never looked at you twice!"
"Same here!" Lindsey replied harshly, nearly pushing Cheri out of their bedroom, he slammed the door in her face.
