Lindsey was angry. Angry at Stevie, because her recorded vocals sounded like shit, angry at himself, because he didn't push her enough. He didn't expect to get everything done at once, but he surely didn't think they'd need to rerecord, what they worked on just a couple of days ago.
Besides anger, Lindsey also felt disappointed. He thought, he sounded serious, like he meant it, telling Stevie that he no longer wanted her. However, she knew him and she saw right through his lies. All it took was a kiss. One kiss. The worst part was that by kissing him, Stevie proved to him and herself that he very clearly still wanted her.
Hearing the front door open, Lindsey straightened up. Cheri had spent the past few days at a friend's place. Lindsey could lie to himself, but he knew, he scared her and she needed to be away from him for a bit. Hearing her footsteps, he looked over his shoulder and smiled, when Cheri stopped in the doorway of the living room.
"I'm glad you're back." Lindsey said, but she seemed a little hesitant. "I'm sorry for the things I said and did."
"I hope you are." Cheri replied, taking a couple of steps she approached him and placed her hands on his shoulders. "You scared me, Lindsey. You've never laid a hand on me before."
Lindsey nodded. "I know and I feel horrible about it." He cocked his head back and Cheri bent down to kiss him. "I swear, that's never going to happen again."
"It better not." She said and walked around the couch to sit down beside him. "You have to be honest with me. Tell me, what brought it all on?"
"You already know." Lindsey shrugged and hugged Cheri close to himself. "Stevie and I had an argument. Well, she just yelled some things at me."
"Are you ever going to let go of that woman?" Cheri asked, looking up at him. "How can we be happy together if you're always with someone else in your mind?"
"I'm not with her in any way." Lindsey said angrily, his eyebrows furrowed. "She's just..." He sighed. "She's got this power over me and I don't know, what to do about it. I've known Stevie for a long time, we're in the same band. There's no escaping her."
Cheri was silent for a moment, she then shifted in her seat and reached for Lindsey's hand. "Well, have you ever thought about leaving Fleetwood Mac?"
"Seriously? No." Lindsey shook his head. "Sure, I may have told Mick, I'd quit if things didn't go my way, but I've never truly meant it."
"What good has being a part of that band brought you? Sure, it gave you fame and money, but besides that?"
"I wouldn't be today, where I am if not for that band, Cheri."
"You never know." Cheri gave a shrug of her shoulders as she caressed his hand with hers. "It would surely separate you and Stevie if you decided that maybe it's time to do something else."
Lindsey grew quiet. It was true, but he'd never genuinely thought about not being in Fleetwood Mac. It wasn't easy, there was always drama surrounding the band and everyone in it seemed to hate each other, but on the other hand, Lindsey also loved the music. When he and Stevie joined Fleetwood Mac, he grabbed the steering wheel and drove the band into a completely different direction. He believed, he had finally done something in life. However, Lindsey wasn't sure, how long he could go on if things were to stay the same, if Stevie kept on playing her mind games. He might actually go insane sooner rather than later.
"I can't think about leaving now." Lindsey spoke up after some time. "We're recording an album."
Cheri sighed, but she wasn't left completely disappointed. Clearly, she had planted that seed in his mind.
