Chapter 14: Blaze (Of Glory)

A/N: finally a Blaze level! Yeah, I'm still acting like this is a video game... Lol. And A certain group from the IDW Comics appear, alongside a certain wolf. Although I removed a member because they're better off without him. Trust me, you'll know when you see them.

The next day was normal for Blaze, she walked through the base, noticing a lot of commotion. Shadow noticed her and smiled a little "Blaze, I'm glad you're here, because we need you to do something."
"What is it?"
According to reports, there's been multiple explosions near Capital city..."
"You want me to go by myself?"
"Yeah, less likely to get spotted. Shouldn't be any fighting, but be careful."
"Alright, I'll go."
Blaze left the HQ and began to make her way to Capital City "What could it possibly be? Maybe someone attacking? That's Eggman's capital, no one would be dumb enough to do that!" She said to herself...

"Investigate the disturbance."

Blaze had just reached the outskirts of Capital City, the large metropolis visible through the lush forest. There were explosions and the sounds of war... She ran to the edge of the city and looked at the river, something being... Off, with it. She looked over and saw something jump out of the water... It looked like a mountain of water, then she saw the snout... And then the green eye, like a snake. She heard Amy on the radio "Is that Chaos!? Who's in control of it!?"
They then heard Knuckles...
"I am... I'm doing what Shadow can't. Ending this war. You can stay out of my way, or you can get trampled. Your choice."
"Blaze, there's no way he can take on Capital City by himself!"
Blaze increased her speed, still being on the edge of the city. Suddenly she heard Knuckles again as Chaos stopped "Something is givin' Chaos trouble!"
Blaze looked over and could barely see him, but she saw Infinite! He was holding Chaos off, with Arnec fighting beside him against some of Knuckles' resistance fighters. Blaze rushed through the outskirts of the city, taking out robots on the way. Chaos several times tried to hit Infinite, him dodging with little effort. Chaos roared before launching lightning from his mouth. Infinite dodged it but several buildings collapsed. Suddenly a salvo of missiles came from the inner parts of the city and struck Chaos, seemingly doing nothing. But they weren't used to harm Chaos, but rather distract it as Infinite flew up behind him. He powered up the ruby on his chest and a large creature appeared. It looked like a snake made of black water, with a mask like Infinite's on its face. It also had arms and roared as it hopped onto Chaos' back, clawing at it. Chaos reared back and roared before two tentacles of water came out and hit the monster off of him. The two looked at each other before Chaos launched another wave of lightning from his maw. Infinite's monster dodged, barely, and tackled Chaos. Chaos bit the monster and dragged it under the water, electrifying it. Blaze could hear the muffled roars of both as she made her way to a gun tower. She ran up it and disabled the power system with a fireball. She looked over the battlefield and saw how badly outnumbered Knuckles' resistance was. For every soldier, there was probably 15-20 bots AT LEAST. Even if they were technically traitors, Blaze refused to let them die. She hopped down and lit the battlefield up. Using her fireballs, she could wipe out entire squads of bots within seconds. It wasn't enough though, there were still hordes and the Egg Hunters didn't help. Also Arnec had now joined her part of the battle and was going left and right, knocking soldiers out and even using his robot comrades as human shields. Blaze knew she'd have to deal with him. But she wanted to take him down nonlethally, in hand to hand combat. He noticed her and moved in, her dodging his sword swings. This continued for a few minutes before Arnec got off of her case and went back to traumatizing the Resistance recruits. Blaze shot fireballs and went into her flamenado to take out some bots. Blaze then went to blast the bot behind Arnec, but that's not what would happen. As she released the fireball, Arnec dashed to his left to Dodge a wispon shot, right in the fireball's path! It struck his right cheek, knocking him down! He jumped up and growled, his right cheek, and the fluff that was there, seared to a crisp. He growled before dashing away, disappearing. Blaze was too in shock to do anything and had her hand over her mouth. She heard Knuckles
"Pull back and regroup!" he yelled as his troops, what little remained, left. And then she heard Shadow
"It was foolish to attack the enemy's capital with such little a force..."
"I... I thought Chaos could handle it!"
"You know nothing about military strategy, "commander"? Your biggest units always need support. Go home."
Knuckles got off the radio and Shadow sighed "Blaze, how are things there?"
"Capital city has little damage, Chaos could barely reach the edge. I encountered Arnec too. Tried to not hurt him, but one of my fireballs hit his face... He's alive though."
"Dare sent me the footage from her encounter with him. Eggman did something horrible to him."
"What do you want me to do? I'm already out of the combat zone."
"Head back."
"Copy."
Blaze sighed before rushing back to base, avoiding patrols. She walked into the HQ and saw that out of all the soldiers Knuckles had brought with him, only 7 made it back. Shadow had noticed too
"You had over 70 go with you. Where are they at?"
"Gone... Most lost in Capital City."
"Course... But it doesn't matter now, because we've got a war to win." Shadow said before extending his hand "I don't give second chances often... Might wanna take it. We need to work together."
"Fine." Knuckles said before shaking his hand. Shadow smiled "Good choice. Now, we're gonna need Chaos, so you better give him up too."
"Fine. But I better get some peace and quiet when this is all said and done."
"No promises."
"Good enough."
"Good. Now, I think we've got a war to end."
Knuckles then smirked "You never did tell us what you encountered on the Death Egg. Amy said it was chaos."
Shadow chuckled as he put his hand on his chin "It was chaotic. Silver Sonic."
"How bad was it?"
"Not too shabby. More powerful than an Egg Hunter MKII... But not like a Death Crab. Me and the rest of Team Dark got it done."
"You didn't find Sonic, at all!?"
"Sadly, no. We turned that place upside down, not even Rouge could find him. We did take out a bunch of bots though, so it wasn't a total failure. Although I'm still in confusion on how he had Sonic on the Death Egg but then he wasn't there..."
Knuckles nodded before sighing "Well, me and what's left of my men need rest."
Shadow nodded before Knuckles walked off, bringing the others with him. Shadow looked around and sighed
"Least he's back." he said to himself. Rouge walked by him and followed Knuckles, while Omega just stood on his own. Shadow walked up to him "How you holding up?"
"All systems nominal."
"Good. I've got a bad feeling of what's to come. Something is coming..." Shadow said as he leaned against a crate. He looked around at the Resistance members and almost smiled "I just hope these people truly believe in the cause. I've been trying to put it as blunt as I can, but I feel like there are still some who don't believe me."
Omega looked at him, staying silent. Shadow smirked "Thanks for the advice!"
"Shadow?"
"What?"
"Can we get back to blasting robots? It's quite boring in here."
Shadow chuckled "Soon..." he said with a small smile. The base was still loud, with Amy helping people find there places, and Silver helping her with that. He then heard Nicole on his radio "Sir, we're going to Ghost Town, Dare said she has to get something. Just wanted to tell you."
"Thanks Nicole, I'll have Amy brief me on the place. Tell Dare I wish her good luck!"
"Copy that sir."
Nicole got off and Shadow walked up to Amy "Alright I need all the Intel on Ghost town we got."
Amy looked down and typed on her computer "Hmm... Abandoned town. Earned that name shortly after it was destroyed by Eggman forces and apparently there were sightings..."
"Of what?"
"A brown timber wolf. And according to reports from scouts, this mysterious wolf is not even alive, but a spirit."
"Something supernatural? Well, now I'm a bit intrigued. And considering it's giving the doctor trouble, maybe they'll help her."
"Help who?"
"No one. Was just thinking..."
"Oh, okay." Amy said with a slight smile. Suddenly 4 people walked in; a male blue ocelot, green female howler monkey, male dark brown lion, and a female biscotti wolf. Amy walked up to them "Who are y'all?"
The ocelot smiled before putting his fists on his hips and speaking with a thick (Australian) accent "We're the Diamond Cutters, we've been trying to stop Eggman ourselves. We were wondering if maybe you could... I dunno... Make some room?"
"Alright, tell me your names please."
The ocelot smiled "I'm Slinger,..." he said before looking at the howler monkey "...Claire,..." then at the lion "...Smithy, and last but most certainly not least..." he smiled as he looked at the wolf "...Whisper."
"Alright I'll get you all in the system."
"Thanks. We'll help best we can."
Shadow smiled a little as he watched Amy put them in the system. The Diamond Cutters left and Amy motioned for Shadow to come to her. He walked up to her and she showed him the computer screen.
"We've built up our forces a lot, and now I think we can branch out. So from this terminal you can send out small teams to do some I dunno... Sabotage, recon, whatever your heart desires."
Shadow looked at the terminal and saw all the icons "Alright. I'll do that later."
Amy smiled "Just whenever you can. You are the commander after all!"
Shadow nodded before going to his quarters and sitting down on his bed. He laid back and sighed "Dare... Good luck."

A/N: yeah my head Canon is that Slinger has an Australian accent. And yes, I removed Mimic because I absolutely hate his character... And I think that it's stupid that everyone else in the group just apparently "didn't know" that he would betray them. If Slinger was more like his inspiration (Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear) then he would've know INSTANTLY what Mimic was planning. I mean, Ocelot was like a quadruple agent in MG, so he'd know if someone would betray him. Alright, I know I've had two rants in a row and I'm sorry for that. Dunno when the next chapter will be up.
