"The words that you whispered for just us to know

you told me you loved me

so why did you go away?"

Jack and Evelyn were never the types for PDA. They liked to keep to themselves.  Around their friends, they were close, but not "gross and couply" as Jack liked to phrase it.

The pair stood in front of a painting in France. The band was on a European promo tour and they decided to take a day for themselves, Jack knew how much Evelyn loved art and so, to the Louvre they went. As she gazed over the visual masterpieces, Jack would stand behind her and wrap his arms around her waist. She took advantage of when he was in this mood. It didn't happen often.

"I adore you," Jack whispered into her ear, she smiled and pulled his hand towards the next painting.

They walked back to the tour bus. Jack held a pastry in one hand, and Evelyn's hand in the other. They stopped by the Eiffel Tower, "You look gorgeous today." Jack whispered over to her. She smiled at him, a faint blush spreading over her cheeks.

The pair continued to walk, stopping every so often so Jack could whisper how beautiful she looked or so they could take photos. Sentences of sweet nothings were exchanged, for just them to know.

Evelyn sat in front of the piano, a pastry in her hand, trying to figure out what should come next.

How did we get here, I should have known

"no"

You were an asshole, I should have known

"no"

The things that we did there, who could have known

"no"

singing and dancing for just us to know

 "oh?"

I still remember, the look on your face

lit through the darkness at 1:58

singing and dancing for just us to know

"no."

Evelyn groaned and threw her head back.  She picked up the phone and dialled a famillaiar number,

"Hello?" The voice said

"Hey! I know this is a bit random, but I need your help with a song." She said, playing with her bottom lip.

"yeah! um, do you want me to come over there? or do you want to come over here? " the voice slowly trailed off,

"How about you come over here?"

"Alright, I'll be there soon." She smiled,

"thank you! I'll see you soon!"

The line went dead, and Evelyn's eyes went wide. "what did I do?" she thought to herself. She quickly tidied up her apartment, throwing cereal bowls in the sink, folding blankets, shoving random oddities into her room. She paced the floor, anxiously waiting for the dreaded knock on the door.

'tap, tap, tap'

"shit" she muttered, holding the door handle, she took a deep breath and opened the door wide.

"Hi Ev!" the chipper voice said,

"Hey, come on it!" She chastised herself for sounding too cheery, "have a seat on the couch!" The man walked into her apartment and looked around before sitting on the couch,

"So. You're writing a song?" He said.

"Yeah, I am. I've got the melody and chords, but the lyrics are stuck," she responded,

"is it a dead melody?" He questioned,

"No. It's good. It's really good." She looked up sheepishly, "Let me play it."

Evelyn showed the boy the melody she had hummed into her phone, then showed the supporting chords. She could see some excitement fill his eyes,

"That's good Ev. That's really good." He nodded, "What've you got for lyrics?"

She sat down at the piano, and played the intro,

I still remember, the look on your face

lit through the darkness at 1:58

hmm hmm hm hm for just us to know

She stopped playing,

"That's it?"

"Yeah. I know it's got a long way to go, but I think this could be really good."

"It's about Jack, isn't it."  Evelyn nodded her head in response,

"Yeah. That's why I need help. Whatever I say, I want to say it right."

The boy nodded his head and sat down next to Evelyn on the piano, "the third line," he said, "You hummed, why?"

"I tried a bunch of different phrases but, only the last few syllables stuck."

"I always remember, Jack leaning over to you," the boy started, "He would whisper something, and you'd blush or laugh. You two always had your own conversations going. But,  he would never say anything out loud in front of us." Evelyn laughed at the memories of Jack calling her hot, making a jab at Zach, or telling her that he wished they could be alone.

The boy started humming the words,

I still remember, the look on your face

lit through the darkness at 1:58

The words that you whispered for just us to know

Evelyn smiled and added what felt right,

You told me you loved me

So why did you go away?

Adlibbing, the boy added a run at the end,

away

Evelyn looked over and smiled at the boy beside her, "I really appreciate this." The boy smiled in response,

"Of course Evelyn, I miss having you around." She smiled

"I miss you too Daniel. And everyone else."
