I just wanna get back to us 'cause we used to have more

Evelyn sat in the quiet cafe a few blocks from her apartment. She played with her hair and checked her makeup obsessively, making sure she looked perfect for when Jack got there.

Evelyn felt her head bob up as the bell in front of the door jingled. She didn't even have to make eye contact with the person to know it was Jack. She felt stupid for being able to feel his presence in a room. The pair locked eyes and Jack's hand reached up to give the girl a small wave, she, of course, returned his small gesture with a smile.

She watched as Jack ordered something, she felt as though her heart would beat out of her chest. The girl watched patiently as Jack tiptoed towards her, careful not to disturb the peace. He took the chair across from her and sat down, both of them careful not to say anything.

"Hi," Jack spoke, finally breaking the tension,

"Hi Jack" Evelyn responded. Jack gave her a smile,

"You were incredible last night." Evelyn nodded her head in response, "I've always loved hearing you perform." Evelyn felt her cheeks grow warm. She looked down at her drink to avoid eye contact with the boy across the way.

"Why did you invite me here Jack?" She asked, once again breaking the silence that had filled the air.

"Because I wanted to tell you in person that I thought you were incredible." He responded.

"Is that it?" She asked, feeling her heart break a little. She had hoped that he would tell her that he loved her and wanted her back.

"No." He admitted, picking a piece off of his bagel. "I wanted to tell you a million things, but I can't."

"What do you mean, 'you can't'" Evelyn felt heat growing inside of her. He had always known how to push her buttons.

"I mean, I had this big speech filled with all the words I wanted to say to you, but I can't think of them right now." Evelyn stared at Jack, a blank look flashing through her eyes.

"the song was about you, Jack." She said, gathering her things, "I wrote the last song I sang last night about you." she felt tears threaten to spill from her eyes.

"I know." He said.

"That's it?" She snapped, "I know?" she stared at Jack in disbelief. "I know we're over, and that's fine. But you could at least say something other than 'I know." Jack stared back at Evelyn.

"If it's fine then why'd you write the song Ev?" He asked as she was standing up from her chair.

"Because, even though at some point you stopped loving me, I think that a part of me will forever love you." Evelyn stood up, "It was nice to see you, Jack." She paused, "Take care." she didn't wait for the boy to respond, instead she turned around and left the building. She stepped outside and pulled her hood over her head. Rain was sprinkling down the gloomy streets of LA.

~~~
"Take care." Jack watched Evelyn leave in silence. He was in partial shock over what had taken place. He saw her walk away as rain sprinkled down on the streets. He had messed up. Jack wanted to tell Evelyn that he was sorry, and he still loved her. He wanted to say that they could pick up where they left off and everything would be fine. But, the second he looked into her eyes, all of his words were gone.
"Danny," Jack shouted into the phone, walking down the street, "I need Evelyn's address."
"Oh, I see," Daniel snickered, "Things went well did they?" Jack could feel his eyes rolling into the back of his skull,
"Actually no, the opposite. I sat there like an idiot, like that time Corbyn saw Ariana Grande." Daniel snorted,
"Oh shit that bad huh?"
"Yes, just tell me her address I need to fix it."
Daniel fed Jack the address four times, it was only the final time did Jack thought to write it down. In the rain, Jack decided to run to Evelyn's house. He had no time to be worried about his car or his shoes.
It took him twenty minutes to find her apartment building, and three more minutes to find someone that would buzz him in. Finally, he ran inside and over to the elevator. Anxiously, he waited for the familiar ding of the dropping lift, but, that ding was taking too long and he needed to talk to Evelyn.
In wet shoes, Jack ran up twelve floors worth of stairs and finally stopped in front of apartment 12C. He raised his hand to knock on the door, and only then did he realize what he was about to do. "Oh fuck it." He mumbled and knocked on the door, he heard footsteps approaching.
"Jack?" He saw her, standing there. Her eyes were puffy and her nose red. He knew that was his doing.
"Evelyn I am sorry." He started,
"Do you want to come in?" she asked him.
"No, Thank you, I need to say this here and now." He saw Evelyn nod her head.
"Evelyn, I am so incredibly sorry. I am sorry for today and for making you feel like I didn't love you anymore. I'm sorry for walking away. Evelyn, I love you more than you could ever know, I love the way your eyes light up on stage and the way you twist your hair when you're nervous like you're doing right now. I miss seeing you smile when I whisper something In your ear, and how you made fun of Zach and Corboner with me. I miss you being the last thing I see when I go to bed and the first thing I see when I wake up. I miss how you are with Lav, and how you made up songs about seashells on the beach. I got bad advice and I messed up our relationship but I could never stop loving you Evelyn, you are my sun and moon and all the stars. It killed me to see you singing about us because I knew all of those moments and how much each of them meant to us. I just want to get back to us. We used to be so much more."
