"I do recall now the smell of the rain

fresh on the pavement"

Evelyn sat on the couch in the house she shared with Jack, Corbyn and Daniel. She stared out of the big glass windows that flooded the house with light. It was pouring rain, the drops were bouncing off the pavement.

Jack sat at a barstool in the kitchen and looked at his girlfriend, the house was quiet that morning. Corbyn and Daniel were still asleep, it was just the two of them awake. Noticing his girlfriends solemn mood, Jack went over to the closet and pulled out her favourite rain boots and a coat. The boy excitedly hurried over to his girlfriend, the rainy day items spilling out of his arms.

"Babe!" he said, dropping the items, "Lets go outside!" She turned her head to look at him,

"It's raining Jack."

"Two words my love," he paused, "Rain Boots" he held up her coat and boots. Evelyn gave him a smile and stood up, stretching her arms above her head. She leaned over and gave him peck on the cheek.

The girl pulled on her coat and boots, Jack doing the same with his and the pair opened the door to brave the weather.

"Jack! It's so wet!" she laughed, stretching her arms out in front of her,

"That's what she said!" Jack shouted back at her.

Evelyn's eyes went wide and she kicked a puddle of water, making sure to splash him.

"That's it!" He shouted and lunged for her. She screamed and laughed, running away from her boyfriend. The two ran around the yard, jumping in the puddles, and spinning in the rain. They were making mud pies and didn't notice Corbyn and Daniel wake up. Daniel was videoing the pair making mud pies. He was making a poll on his Instagram story called 'who's mud pie is better' when he felt Corbyn nudge his arm.

"I've never seen Jack like this," Corbyn stated, watching Jack spin Evelyn around. Daniel stopped what he was doing, switching to the camera on his phone, Daniel started filming them dancing in the rain.

Jack looked at Evelyn like she was the only person in the world. He spun her, and she laughed, he pulled her closer and swayed back and forth, until they heard a crack of thunder. He pressed a passionate kiss to her lips and they ran back inside the house.

"Corbone is coming over." Daniel said, shoving a slice of pizza in his mouth, Evelyn whipped her head towards the boy,

"What? Why?" she asked,

"He was asking where I was, so I told him, now he's coming over too."

Evelyn was giving Daniel a death glare when the front door opened,

"I'm here!" Corbyn shouted from the entryway. Evelyn rolled her eyes and walked over to the blue-eyed boy.

"Haven't you heard of knocking?" She asked him,

"Haven't you heard of locking your door?" he fired back, wrapping his arms around her in a hug. "what's this I hear about a number one hit in the making?" he pulled back and shot her a toothy smile.

Evelyn rolled her eyes, and seated herself at the piano, Corbyn lingering behind her. She played him the first verse, and he nodded his head, getting a feel for the song. "okay," he stated, "How about instead of a chorus, you do another verse? Make it like you're telling a story."

"Yeah, I like that idea." She said, turning her head to look out the window. "When did it start raining?" she asked, talking to no one in particular.

Daniel's eyes went wide, "Ev! I never showed you and Jack this!" he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket.

"Showed us what?" she replied,

"Here!" he pulled up a video and held the phone out in front of her. There was Jack, spinning her around in the rain. She smiled at the end when he pulled her in for a kiss.

"I remember everything about that day." She smiled, feeling tears in her eyes, "I remember how the rain fell on my face, the way that everything was so quiet, even the smell of the pavement after it had finally stopped and we went back outside."

"Play the song!" Corbyn's eyes went wide, and he started singing,

I do recall now, the smell of the rain

Fresh on the pavement

da da da doo da

Evelyn smiled and wrote down the lyrics.

the three of them goofed off for a while, tossing out ideas and phrases, nothing really sticking after that. She asked about their upcoming projects, and Jonah and Zach. They were reminicising about on stage fails, and funny interview moments. Their laughter slowly died down after a few minutes, deafening silence filled the air.  "he's doing okay," Daniel said, "He's not the same, but he's okay." Evelyn looked down and nodded her head. Corbyn and Daniel exchanged glances, "How about, we go pick up some food, and We'll come back and keep working out this song?" Daniel added.

"Yeah, that sounds good." Evelyn mustered up a smile and watched the boys leave her apartment.

He was okay without her.
