" Hey, old man. Something's off. You're going the wrong direction. If you're heading to Egypt, shouldn't you be traveling directly west? "
I looked towards Jotaro in the small speedboat. He was right. if we wanted to get to Egypt we would have to go another way.
" You seem to be heading toward that island. "
" That's right. Nice deduction. I have my reasons for keeping this to myself but before we arrive in Egypt we need to make a slight detour. Someone is waiting for us on the island. He is a man who is extremely important to our journey. "
" What is that supposed to mean? " Pol asked.
Joseph didn't say anything else the rest of the boat ride. We just enjoyed the waves as we got closer to the island. When the boat stopped we jumped out and walked to the edge of the forest.
" Hey, now, does someone actually live here? It's such a tiny little island, and it looks deserted. " Polnareff said looking around the trees and flowers that were around.
" Indeed, Mr. Joestar. Does he really live here? " Kakyoin asked facing Joseph's back.
" He lives here by himself. That's what he told me back in India. "
" Who do you mean by 'he'? " Kakyoin asked getting even more curious.
" What? Indian Curry? "
" Polnareff you dolt. "
" Hate to interrupt but I thought you should know someone's watching us from the grass over there. " Jotaro said pointing towards the long stripes of grass.
" What? "
The man then proceeded to stand up and he started running away from us. I thought I recognized him, but I didn't get a clear look at his face.
" He's running away! "
" He defiantly looks familiar. " I said.
Polnareff was the first one to start running after the man. We chased after both of them. The forest was thick but we kept up with the man. We appeared at a house, with some chickens. The man was holding a bowl of feed and he tossed them to the chickens. Joseph approached the gate, greeting the man.
" Excuse me, sir, my name is Joseph Joestar and I'm traveling with my companions to Egypt-"
" I won't have it! Go away! "
" His voice sounds like..."
" I won't say it again. Don't talk to me, got it? No one comes to see me when they have actual good news to report. I only get visitors when something bad happens! Just shut up! Go away! "
When he turned around I could feel tears in my eyes. It looked just like Avdol, except his clothes were gray and he had a gray goatee.
" Mr. Avdol! "
" Avdol wait! "
" I said go! "
" Hold on! That's impossible! "
" That wasn't Avdol. It was his father. He withdrew from society and lives alone on this island. I'm sorry I wasn't able to tell you about this earlier but if it ever became known to Dio that we stopped at this place Avdol's father would be in grave danger. I would never forgive myself if that happened. But for now, my focus has to be on telling him what every parent fears most. That his son is dead. "
I looked towards Polnareff and I could see him grimacing at the memories as they came back. I held his shoulder and he looked at me.
" Don't go back to those memories, Pol. His death wasn't your fault. "
