Juilliard University, NY, 2021

Fiona's POV:

"Good morning you sleepyheads, it's time!"

The only answer I get is a low murmur from Julie. It's going to be exhausting if it's like this every morning. I think I'm becoming their personal alarm clock.

After a few minutes, Julie finally moves and reaches for her mobile phone. As usual, Melanie is still deep in her sleep.

"Attack!", I yell across the room. I jump off in front of her bed and land directly on top of Melanie.

This wake-up method makes Julie giggle out loud. She has finally picked herself up and is on her way to the bathroom.

"Ouuch! Why can't you have a little pity on me."

"Because it's time to get up and you don't want to be late on your first day."

My attack finally got Melanie up and she was ready within a few minutes.

"We're leaving in five minutes." I shout through the room so that they both can hear.

The huge building of the Juilliard University appears in front of us. The sight of it makes my pulse race. But the excitement outweighs the nervousness. I have dreamed of standing right here for so long and now it is reality. And to be able to do it together with two such wonderful people makes it even more special.

Melanie sees a sign that says "freshmans". I assume that means us.

We step through the large glass door and follow all the other young people into a large hall.

"Wow...", Julie says quietly.

In front of us is a huge stage, on which is a podium with a microphone.

Just thinking about the fact that I might be able to stand on this stage myself one day, with the whole hall filled, sends shivers down my spine.

For 40 minutes we are welcomed by the director of Juilliard. He explains to us what it means to be a student at Juilliard and that it will not be a piece of cake for any of us. At the end, he explains the schedule for the first day. Today is still special and it will be mainly an orientation day.

Shortly after, we are asked to meet in the groups for our later courses. This is the moment when Julie, Melanie and I have to part for the first time. All of us are taking other subjects.

Julie is told to go to the big staircase to meet the other music students. Melanie is sent to the back of the Aula to meet her new colleagues for dance and I am to gather with all the acting students in front of the stage.

Before we say goodbye in different directions, there is another big group hug.

"Have fun!", I whisper to them.

"I'll see you at home tonight, I love you guys!", Melanie replies.

I wait a moment until Melanie and Julie have disappeared from my field of vision, then I look around to find my group. A few people have already gathered in front of the stage, so I assume that's where I'm supposed to go.
