"name and business." i hear the familiar voice call on the other side.
"f/n l/n and i brought.. the thing." i say, trying not to let anyone hear that i'm making tea for the corporal.
"come in." i open the door and close it behind me. "you came right when i finished this cup." he said, pointing at the tea mug beside him.
i place the cup down on his desk and watch as he fills lines on the paper he was writing on. "was there anything else you needed from me, captain?" i ask.
"there's something i may want to show you later. it will be in a couple hours, so do what you want in that time. i'll go to your room when it's time to show you."
"can i ask what it is you want to show me?"
"i'd actually my like for it to be a surprise."
"alright, see you later then, captain." he nods his head and i walk out of the office once again. i decide to make my way down to armin's room, thinking that i could pass the time reading the book we had started a little while ago. i knock on his door.
"armin?"
"who is it?"
"it's y/n." he opens the door and looks at me standing on the other side.
"hey, y/n. is there anything i can help you with?"
"i'm trying to pass the time. i was wondering if maybe we could continue reading that book." armin nods his head and steps aside so i can walk into his room.
"hey, what did the captain want?" he asks me. i stand still for a second wondering if i should tell him.
"can i find sasha and then tell you? i promised to tell her what happened as well."
"i don't mind. while your looking for her, i'll organize my desk. i never know when the captain my just walk in my room to examine it." i nod and run down the hallway back to the cafeteria. i find sasha stuffing her face with bread.
"sasha?"
"y/n!" she calls with her mouth full. "back so soon?"
"yeah, i was planning on telling you what the captain wanted me in his office for. would you come down to armin's room so i can discuss it with the two of you?" she nods, carrying loads of bread against her chest. we make our way back to the blond's room.
"hey, armin. i'm back." sasha waves and armin gives us a smile.
"so did the captain discuss something important with you?" sasha asks.
"actually, yes. he was asking me if i would be a candidate for squad leader." sasha spits out her bread and armin raises his eyebrows.
"your going to be a captain?" sasha whisper yells.
"yeah. well, not right now. i'll become captain when one of the captains now dies. i'll basically be taking over their place."
"that is so cool y/n." sasha giggles.
"i'm proud of you!" armin smiles. i nod my head. "so, sasha. me and y/n we're going to read this book. would you like to listen."
"yes please. i need some entertainment while i eat." sasha says, shoving more bread in her mouth. i listen once again as the words smoothly ran out of armin's mouth. sasha noticed how flawlessly he read and nodded her head while eating. armin had always been extremely shy and would stutter over words when he spoke. hearing him speak so well while reading really caught our attention.
the book was handed over to me. i read my page pretty well. i did a lot better than before, however i did stutter once. sasha continues to listen to the story read to her. we read for about an hour and a half. remembering that the captain wanted to see me again later, i looked out the window and down at the non existent watch on my arm.
"guys, i think i should be getting back. it's getting kinda late."
"i agree," sasha says, yawning and rubbing her eyes. "thanks for reading that book." sasha says, leaving the room.
"good bye, y/n."
"i'll see you later, armin." i close the door behind me and walk down the hallway to my room. i tried to make myself comfortable, so i took of my boots. i laid on my bed, waiting for what the corporal had for me to see. i was fighting the urge to sleep. how does someone stay up for so long? i ask myself, rubbing my temples.
a small knock was heard on the other side of my door. i get up from my bed and crack the door open to see who was on the other side. "oh, hello captain." i say, opening the door a bit more so he could see me.
"hey, cadet."
"so what did you want to show me?" i yawn.
"come with me." i follow behind him do a door i had never seen before. he opens it, revealing a staircase heading up wards. he allows me to walk in front of him and climb the stairs. my feet felt heavy, but i decided to hide the fact that i was tired while in front of the captain.
i open another door at the top of the staircase. we were now on the roof of hq. "why are we on the roof?" i ask. he doesn't answer and instead sits down on a ledge. he past the spot beside him for me to sit. he points upwards at the stars.
i open my mouth in awe. "wow." i whisper. i look over at the captain who was admiring the sky. "why did you bring me here?" i ask.
"because i want to spend some time with my soldiers. i realize we don't have much time and being in the survey corps is very dangerous." i nod and look back up at the sky.
"also, because erwin seems to really trust you. i would like to figure out what exactly it is that he trusts about you." i feel the corners of my mouth pull upwards and i look back at the captain.
a microscopic smile formed at the corners of his mouth and he patted my head. "thanks for the tea, cadet. you've got quite the gift for tea making." he added quietly.
i can't stop myself from letting a big smile on my face. the lids in my eyes become heavier and heavier as i feel the desire to go to sleep. my head lowers down onto the captain and my eyes close.
