i sit on the edge of my bed, dangling my feet. i played with the new jewels i had gotten. i traced my thumb over the design of the wings of freedom.
i had just gotten back from dinner, but i couldn't fall asleep. my feet touched the ground and i pulled on my shoes. i walked out of my room and then knocked on the door across from me.
"name and business."
"f/n l/n. can i come in?"
"yeah." i open the door and close it behind me. "was there something you needed?" levi asked, still keeping his eyes down on the paperwork.
"not really.." i said. "i think i just want to be with you right now."
"you sure?" he asked, placing his pen down on the table. "you're not going to get my attention. i have to finish this work."
"it's alright... i want to be with you." i repeat.
"alright." he picked up his pen and wrote on the paper again. it was dark outside, so the only source of light we had was from a candle. the candle let out a yellow glow, making the corporal's face look brighter. he must have noticed i was staring because he looked up at me.
"what?"
"nothing." he nodded and looked back down. his head doubled back up and he pointed at the chain hanging from my neck.
"where did you find something like that?" he asked.
"it was from my dad.... it was in the box."
"ah." he grabbed his pen and started writing again. "i remember your father."
"really?"
"yeah. he was here when i first joined the survey corps. i don't know much about him because he died on the first expedition i went on."
"oh." i said, lowering my head in disappointment.
"he always talked about you."
"really?" i asked, looking back up at him. "what did he say?"
"he would always talk about how he was going to give you freedom. he always talked about how he loved you and he was certain you would join the survey corps."
"and i did."
"you did."he continued to fill out the pages. i sit in his room, just admiring the way his face looked in this light. i listened to the pen scratching against the paper he was writing on. the room felt peaceful.
"y/n." levi said, stacking the papers together. "i've finished my work." he gets up from his desk and holds my hand. "come with me."
he leads me out of the office. we walk down the hallway and to the front doors. he opens the doors for me and the wind from outside blows against my skin, causing me to shiver.
levi leads me to the stables and takes his horse. "get up." he said. i got up on his horse and he got on it behind me. his arms wrapped around my body so he could hold the reins in his hands.
the horse walked into the forest. "do you know where we're going?" i ask.
"don't you trust me?"
"i do... but it's kinda late."
"were you planning on sleeping?"
"not really." he continues to lead the horse further into the forest. fears of animals or strange insects jumping out at me caused me to cuddle myself into levi's chest.
"you're going to be fine." he whispered. we rode into the forest for about 10 more minutes. the horses came to a stop and levi patted my shoulder. "we're here."
he jumped off of his horse and outstretched his arm. i took his hand in mine and jumped off of the horse. he tied the horse to a tree and took my hand. "it's just over here." he said.
he lead me past a couple bushes. i felt a hand creep up over my eyes. "what are you doing levi?" i whisper.
"i want it to be a surprise." he led me by holding my hand. i had my other hand waving around the area around me so i didn't run into anything.
levi chuckled and made me step forward about three more times. "okay, i'll count down from three." he said, letting go of my hand.
"three."
"two."
"one."
the hand over my eyes was taken down. i opened my eyes and looked at the pond in front of me. there was a small cave underneath a small waterfall. flowers decorated the area around the pond.
"levi." i gasp.
"like it?"
"duh. how did you find a place like this?" i ask, walking down to the pond.
"when i first joined the survey corps, i used to ride around down in the forest at night because i didn't have paperwork holding me back." he said, standing beside me.
"woah." i say, admiring the scenery. i sit down in the grass and look at my reflection in the pond. levi sits beside me and plays with my hair. "thanks, levi." i whisper.
"for what?"
"for bringing me here."
"no problem." he chuckles. it was strange, about a month ago, this was not the same levi i had seen. before, he hid all emotion and tried his best to keep himself from getting too attached to the people around him. but now, he was here. now he would take me out to places like this in the middle of the night. now he would try his hardest to protect me. he's a new person all because he cares about me.
i rest my head on levi's chest. he wraps his arm around my shoulder and pulls me closer. "levi." i whispered. he hummed in response. i felt the vibrations in his chest. they made butterflies in my stomach. "i love you."
he stiffens a bit under me, but relaxes a second later. "i love you too, y/n."
