ANTHEIA
Few weeks later
"Grand rising," Julius smiled, waving at us. Returning the gesture, I look at mom. "You know, maybe you should give him a chance."
Hearing that, my mom rolled her eyes. "I have better things to do, like taking care of this stand," she said, working on the flowers. "Mom, it's been years, and he still tries. I had my doubts, but he genuinely seems to care."
That made my mom stop. "Men are good at lying, sweetheart."
"Are they really, or is it just an excuse to keep pushing him away?" I said. "He cares for you, mom. I can see that. Just give him one chance. If it doesn't work out, you can continue with your life. It isn't a bad thing to try with someone that cares for you."
For a moment, there was silence as we looked at each other. I could see her thoughts running wild, trying to justify why she should ignore his presence. Her face relaxed as she smiled. "Maybe you're right. I never thought I would get to experience a moment where my daughter would teach me something."
"I will go talk to him," she added before walking off towards him. From a distance, I could see their interaction as he looked nervous at first but soon smiled. It seemed to go well, as it took a few moments before they started to laugh like old friends.
I felt relieved seeing my mother smile like that. I know that her experience wasn't always positive but hope that he will show her what it feels like to be happy with someone else.
Knowing that the conversation went well, I turned away to help the costumers.
......"Today is my lucky day.", I sighed as I started to clean up the stand. Time flew by as everything seemed to be sold out, pretty quickly. My eyes wandered to my mom as she walked towards me with a soft smile on her face. Confused, I looked back at Julius to see him looking flustered.
"What happened?", I asked eagerly. "We planned to meet at sunset.", my mother smiled. "I think I have the perfect dress for this occasion.", I said, clapping my hands excitedly.
.....
"This is amazing. Thank you so much Antheia."
"Of course mom.", I said looking at her reflection. The beautiful pastel green dress complimented her skin perfectly, as the details engraved in it made it stand out even more. "Thank you princess", my mom said kissing my head.
Before I got the chance to respond, we heard a soft knock coming from the door. "He's here.", she said straightening herself before opening the door. "I- I know that you probably already have enough of these but these colors made me think of you.", Julius said giving my mother a large bouquet of flowers.
"Thank you.", my mother said shyly handing me the flowers. "Could you put them in the vase?", she said handing them over to me.
"Of course, mom.", I smiled. "I-If you don't mind, there's something else I wanted to give.", he said before revealing a small box.
She looked back at me before looking back. As she opened the gift, her face fell in surprise. It was a golden necklace that had a beautiful coin attached to it. It was something so simple but so artistic. From what I could see it had flowers engraved in it.
"I can't take this, Julius."
"Please do. I had this for many years because it reminded me of you.", he answered quickly.
"Keep it. Maybe in the near future, you will have a reason to give it to me.", my mother answered.
"I think it's time for you to discuss that somewhere else.", I hinted softly pushing my mother out of the door.
They smiled, both waving at me. Seeing that as my sign, I took the braided basket my mom made before putting in the necessities......
Sparks ran through my body as I felt the adrenaline rise. "I can't miss the view", I thought to myself.
My bare feet touched the grass, as I ran towards my destination. "Finally", I said out loud, as my eyes wandered over the city view. The city lights becoming more clear as the night fell. "This is what peace feels like.", I smiled as I opened the basket before pulling out the berries.
Staring at the view, I once again lost myself deep in my thoughts as a sudden reflection snapped me out of it. Confused I looked down to see the necklace reflect the lights of the city. As if the universe knew what I was thinking about I heard a voice behind."Hey"
