ARTEMIS
Today it was unusually quiet, every step I made echoed clearly through the halls. But as usual, the only sounds you could hear were those coming out of Zeus' room, indicating that Hera was probably there. I opened the door to my room, ready to step in when suddenly a letter appeared.
I knew just by the stamp that The Creator was calling me. This surprised me as I knew that it must be something important. I quickly stood up walking immediately to the golden gates. To my surprise they were already open, still unsure I walked up the stairs looking around to see if anyone else was there. But the only thing I saw were the clouds that surrounded the stairs.
"Come to me, my child.", The Creator said. I bowed lowly before walking closer. "What can I do for you, My Creator ?"
That's when I heard a child cry out loud, "I don't have the time to explain but over exactly 18 years this will be the goddess that will prevent a war from happening."
This happened out of the blue, I was confused and stunned by his words, a new goddess. This hasn't happened in almost an eon.
"What war? Why do we need a new goddess? Why am I here? Am I supposed to watch over her?", I asked myself all those questions. It seemed that The creator already knew the answer to all of them.
"There will be a time where someone will become selfish, they will start a war. A war that will give them a lot of power. This goddess, this baby. She will be the one you will all need. The reason I choose you is that your heart is pure and you will choose to do the right thing. Be her friend, watch over her as you guide her to be the immortal we need her to be."
I was about to protest but that's when everything lit up. "Now go and make sure that she won't be found."
I knew the task that was given to me. Still confused I complied not questioning the intentions behind everything. I felt my heart race as I knew I had to step foot on earth. It will be the only place where she will be safe from everything. Earth is a place we all looked down upon. A place we wouldn't enter unless we have a business to handle there.
The baby looked at me with her big brown eyes. She was truly beautiful, her dark skin was something I've never seen before. She was on the chubbier side but it made her cheeks stand out more. I quickly wrapped her around my chest as I entered the halls. I could feel her little hands touching my skin as she blabbered softly. Even though the silence was still present, I felt more paranoid and conscious as I neared the exit. "Moirae", I whispered. I heard her footsteps approach as she stopped right in front of me. "We have to go to earth", I whispered.
She looked at me, showing that she understood before lowering herself. "Are you going somewhere?", Athena's voice rang out making me stop in my tracks. "Yes", I stuttered. There was no answer but I knew her eyes lingered over my body. "It looks like you're not prepared.", she said.
Confused I raised my eyebrows, "What?", I questioned still not looking at her. "It looks like you're not going on your usual hunts and you seemed to be dressed casually. That means you will go to earth.", she said. "How did-", I was about to ask but she stopped me.
"No need to panic, just make sure to wash yourself. Since this is your first time, I will leave the soap by your bed", she spoke.
"Thank you but what is it for?", I asked unknowingly.
'It will prevent you from getting caught with the mortal smell. The smell is something you will notice instantly. This soap has been going around for a while but don't let Hera and Zeus know."
I nodded before looking over my shoulder at her. "Thank you", I smiled.
She returned the gesture before walking back into the palace. As I was ready to fly away, I looked down noticing that the child was sleeping. "That's why you were so quiet.", I whispered.
We flew off as the palace became smaller. It felt different as we lowered ourselves, the sun seemed to shine brighter as the clouds seemed to vanish. Looking below I saw the forests and cities all around me. "This is amazing", I whispered to myself.
"You can lower yourself here, Moirae"
...
In a few moments we landed as I looked around, there was nothing to be seen but the trees surrounding us. "Thank you Moirae", I smiled as I caressed her locks before feeding her the fruits I kept. "Stay hidden from anyone, I will be back soon", I said before walking off.
I kept walking until I felt like she would've been safe. There was an open space, that seemed to be dried out from the roots. Still not sure, I laid her down on the barren soil for a second trying to find something to seal and protect her. But as I turned back around, I gasped in surprise. The child was surrounded by flowers. Flowers that weren't there when I laid her down. She looked back at me with her big brown eyes as I still couldn't comprehend what just happened. "Did you just do that?", I asked as if she could answer me.
As expected she didn't respond but her warm eyes looked back at me. The ground that she hasn't touched seemed dried out as before, wanting to try my suspicions I moved her letting her touch the barren soil again. For a split moment, nothing happened but that's when the baby started to glow.
It seemed like she was the golden light but it quickly disappeared. My mouth gaped open in surprise, as there were new flowers around her.
"But that can't be right", I thought to myself. "Hera is the goddess of marriage, childbirth, family, flowers, and flowery wreaths. It's the reason why we sometimes refer to her as Antheia.", I thought to myself.
I knew there was something off about that. "She lied, because I'm looking at the real Antheia, the one that can grow people's land. The one that feels empathy towards human love by gifting them the beauty of flowers."
" I can't leave you here", I said as I was about to pick her up. But I was quickly hit with a scent, it wasn't unbearable but it was strong. I heard a woman's voice sing out loud. It seemed to get closer as I looked at the baby before looking towards the sound.
"I will come back for you", I whispered to Antheia before kissing her on the cheek. I quickly hid behind the thick tree. I could see the woman more clearly now. She seemed to be young, and she had the same skin color as her. She looked around as she neared Antheia, unsure of what she was witnessing. "How could they leave you behind", I could hear her whisper as she picked up Antheia.
"You must be starving and scared", she said looking at her before holding her closely. Antheia's little hand caressed the woman's face, making her heart melt just by her touch. "You're safe little one", she smiled as she wrapped Antheia close to her. I felt the urge to follow them but I quickly stopped myself.
"She's safe"
