Fighting for Love

First day

From a very young age new things seem scary to most people as well as me. Going from one grade to a new one, changing schools and so on. But the scariest new thing for me was starting a job at LA fire department. Being a 27 year old single mother to 2 year old boy is hard enough but finding a job is even harder. But when I got a job at 118 I got nervous, not knowing anybody there was scary. 

So after my baby boys Kay's babysitter came I went to my car and started to drive to work. While driving I went to pick up a cupcakes, I wanted to make a good first impression. Finally I arrived and I walked in. As I walked in I right away saw two men and a women talking and it looked like they are having a laugh.  ''Hello I'm Rebecca and I'm looking for Captain Nash.'' 

The women smiled and shook my hand. ''Hello I'm Hen, you must be the paramedic that we have been waiting for.'' I smiled and nodded at her. ''Hey here are some cupcakes for all of you. I wanted to thank everybody for giving me a chance.'' As I gave Hen the box I saw a men walking to us. ''Rebecca? I thought I heard you. I'm Chim and I am the temporary Captain. I see you already met Hen and this is Eddie and Buck. And you will meet the rest of the people during lunch break.''

 I smiled at him and nodded. ''Hey everybody I'm Rebecca but you can call me Becca. I'm from England and I have a 2 year old son. Before you ask I'm a single mother so yeah. But can I now change clothes and get going to work.'' I smiled at all of them and they all nodded. ''Hen you can show Becca her locker and the clothes should be there?'' Hen nodded and pulled me to the lockers. 

I changed my clothes and put my hair up to a bun. I walked up the stairs and saw all of them stuffing their faces with cupcakes I bought them. ''So I see all of you like the cupcakes.'' I laughed as I grabbed one as well. They all looked at me and smiled. ''Yeah they are the best ones we have ever had. You know you have to bring them more often now.'' Chim said and then asked me. ''So if I'm not being rude can you tell us your story?'' I just shook my head showing that he was not being rude. 

''Ok well sure. I'm 27 I was born in London. Both my father and mother are doctors but they always wanted me to follow my dreams so after I finished school I straight away went to be a firefighter in London. I worked many years with the same team and 3 years ago a men came to our team. We hit off and we soon started dating but on one call he took a stupid risk and he got terribly hurt. He was on life support but  we had talked about what we wanted if something happened to us so I knew that he would not want to live like that. I let him go. Few weeks after that I found out that I was pregnant. I quit my job and started to take care of my child. But soon I realized I wanted to make my dream work and I moved here with Kay. Sooo yeah here I am.'' 

All of them looked shocked at the story but I was used to it already. I have already taken all the pain in and let that go as much as I can. ''So I see you all are shocked but don't worry Kay is amazing and I got over the pain with the help of him.'' I smiled as I said that. ''And I'm here to work and become a part of this team.'' I said and Hen came to hug me. 

''Well I feel you are going to fit right in.'' Hen said and welcomed all the other guys to a hug as well.  That moment I knew I had found a new family. As we hugged and the alarm went off. We all ran and got dressed, that moment I realized I really missed this adrenaline.  

Turing the drive to the call I chatted with Hen and I found that she has a boy as well with her wife. If only Kay would be able to play normally we would be able to have play dates. As we passed intersection we heard and little bit felt an explosion. I looked behind us from our mirrors and saw that the truck behind us exploded. We stopped and started to run to the truck, everybody else were okey other than cuts and bruises but Buck was under the truck. Chim started to think of the plan but then we saw a young boy walking towards us, as he got closer I saw a bomb against him. 

''Chim.'' I whispered but he didn't hear me. ''CHIM'' I said a little louder and he looked at me and then the young boy.  We all watched as he told us to get away from Buck. We ran away as we saw the police coming up, we told them that others are okey but we need to help Buck. They pushed us behind the tape and started to ask what he wants. 

''I WANT TO SEE THE CAPTAIN'' the boy yelled and I was confused. I looked at Eddie and he whispered all the story to me that there had been bombing and we guessed that he was the bomber. Chim walked to the bomber. ''Hey I'm the Captain, we need to help the man there.'' Chim tried to talk to him. ''N0 I WANT CAPTAIN NASH.'' he boy yelled again and Chim was pulled back by the police. As we talked to the police I saw who I assumed was Captain Nash walking to the bomber. I zoned out for a while but when the police ran towards Nash and the bomber, we all ran to help Buck. 

''Hey Buck how are you, still with us?'' I asked him as I started to see the injuries he had. ''Yeah I still am.'' I smiled and started to stabilize his neck. ''Okey we need to lift the truck off him.'' Captain Nash said and we all tried to to that but the truck was too heavy. We tried again and Chim ordered an other truck. We tried to lift again and as we lifted we saw many other people coming to help us. As the others lifted me and Hen tried to pull Buck out, finally got him out and quickly got him to the hospital. 

While in hospital I met Buck's sister Maddie. But as much I wanted to stay at the hospital I needed to go home to my boy. ''Hey guys can someone give me a lift home? I need to let my babysitter free.'' I asked and Eddie said the same, he agreed to giving me a lift and off we went. 

As we drove from the hospital me and Eddie talked about our lives. ''And well after she died I'm trying to be strong for Chris but I just feel this anger all the time and I can't ignore it anymore.'' Eddie said after he told me about his son and his son's mom. ''I think that you should try getting the anger out sometimes. Just try something and if it won't work you can try something else.'' I smiled and he nodded as a thank you. ''I will see you tomorrow.'' I said as I got out of the car. Eddie just nodded and waved to me. 

After I got Kay to be and read him his story I thought about the weirdest first day on the job but I was happy that Buck was okey and hopefully soon back to work.
