Your alarm blared blasting you out of your dream, and awake for the sun to shine in your face. You sat up and rubbed your eyes, wishing that the sun would go back down, and allow the moon to meet the sky.
" At least this time I had a normal dream. "
You were right. This time when you slept you didn't dream of Ji-young or anyone. You simply fell asleep and woke up like you were in a time loop. You felt tired and you wanted to go back to sleep, but you knew you had to get up and get ready for school. You grabbed some clothes and walked towards the shower, but when you got to the door your brother was already in the shower.
' He's going to take forever. He takes an hour to shower, he must secretly want to be a girl or something. '
You started walking to the other side of the house and got in the shower down there. The water was warm as it hit your skin and it slowly unrolled your tense shoulders. The shower woke you up a little more, and when you got out the blow dryer was waiting for you. You dried your hair, slipped your clothes on, and completed your morning routine. The next thing you wanted was to get breakfast.
You left the bathroom and went into the kitchen to see your mother sitting at the dining table with a cup of coffee. She had eye bags under her eyes and she didn't look like she slept at all. You grabbed some bread and put it in the toaster. You pushed the button to lower it into the heated chamber, and you walked towards your mother.
" Hey, are you okay? You look really tired. "
Your mother looked up at you, and you could really tell how tired she was. Her eyes stayed on you for a minute before wavering and you could hear her mumbling something.
" Why don't you go away? "
" What was that, mom? "
You heard it of course, but it didn't feel like the words were directed towards you. She had looked at you, yes, but when she asked her question her eyes moved behind you. There was no one behind you, it was only you and your mother in the room.
" Mom, who are you talking to? "
" Go away! "
Your mother stood from her chair and grabbed your shoulder, but she pushed you out of the way as she headed behind you, but she stopped. She turned to look back at you, and her face looked a little sad.
" Oh, I'm sorry sweety. I thought I saw something. I haven't had the best sleep so I'm just a little cranky because I haven't slept much. "
" How long have you slept? "
" I think the last time I had a full night's rest was...five days ago. "
" Mom, you need to rest! You can't stay awake for four days without consequences. You know after 72 hours you start seeing illusions, and I don't think they're very nice. "
" I know, but I just don't want to go to sleep and have those awful dreams. "
" Dreams? "
" I always have this awful dream, and my mind won't let me wake up. So, I'm just trying not to go to sleep. "
" Mom, you need to sleep. It's something the human body needs. Stay in your room and don't go to work. When I get home I don't want to see you in the back room on your laptop at work. I want you in bed and sleeping. "
Of course, you knew she wouldn't listen to you. She never did, especially when it was about things like this. She nodded her head and looked back down at the table, no doubt getting lost in her thoughts again. You shook your head and grabbed your toast from the toaster and walked outside. You ate the piece of toast outside and starred at the sky.
The sky was always beautiful in the morning. Sometimes it would be pink, or orange and the clouds would be laying across the sky like a sheet. You cleaned yourself off of the crumbs and got in your mother's car. She worked at home so there was no real reason for her to need her car. So, you put the key into the ignition and started the car.
You left the driveway and started driving to school. It would be your first day back from the break, and you were not excited. You knew it would be different at the school without Laura, Jean, and Sam to bully everyone. You never knew what it would be like without them. You focused on that thought as you drove to school.
On the other hand, your mother still sat at the table in the kitchen. Her son just went outside to leave, and she didn't even notice him leaving. She listened to her daughter but she didn't want to sleep. The figure she saw earlier looked so real that she thought someone had entered her home. The figure that haunts her in her dreams.
' I thought he was really here. '
When you were standing in front of her, she thought she saw the silhouette of a man standing behind you. She couldn't see any features, the figure was only a silhouette. The figure was pitch black, with no details, and he had a purple outline around the edge of his figure. The only feature he had on was the wicked red smile that spread across his cheeks, in a wide horrifying grin, with no teeth. It looked like it was a demon.
The figure stood behind you and its hand was holding your left arm while its other arm was laying across your chest. The figure was close to your back, and she could see it would be looking at her if it had eyes. Grinning at her, as if it was claiming you. She noted how it stood there, and you never saw the man's silhouette. It wasn't until she stood up and yelled for the figure to go away, that it disappeared.
She noticed something else as well. There was another figure that was watching. In the corner of the room, there was another dark figure watching, and it looked just like the other figure with the purple outline. Except there was no red smile, and the glowing outline wasn't purple, it was red. Only when she looked up at it did it spread a smile like the other one.
' What is wrong with me? '
