The school was in flames. "Oh my god, what the fuck?! What do I do? Let me go, Renjun, let me go right now!!" Meihua couldn't think. About anything. Anything other than this.
Her eyes brimmed with tears as she struggled from the boy's grip. "Renjun, please, I need to go back. Please."
She wasn't an expert at how fires worked, let alone bombings. But she really wanted to go back. She had no idea where her friends where, so she needed to go back.
"Oh my god- Fuck!" She screamed loudly. "Hua, please calm down-" "No! Kai! He was still there. Huang Renjun, I fucking hate you, let me go. Kai's gonna burn to death or something. Renjun, please."
The girl remembered Kai being jealous that he had offered to help her in art but Renjun had taken over. She remembered him scowling and not going with her when she wanted to go to lunch together. She remembered Renjun pulling her away to the back of the school, to the orchards and saying he wanted to talk. Then she remembered the... the...
"Hua... sunshine, look at me. I know you're scared right now, alright? But you have to trust me. Kai isn't in there, and if he is, someone will save him. You aren't qualified or in the right state of mind to save anyone right now. So please calm down."
She took a deep breath like Renjun motioned for her to, but it barely calmed her. Tears rolled uncontrollably down her eyes, mixed with her sweat: making her hair slick and damp. Her hands trembled and her lips quivered and her knees felt like they would give out.
"Hua, I'm serious. Keep breathing, okay?" And she decided to listen to him. She didn't want to. She didn't want to stand still while all this was going on but what choice did she have? She decided to listen to him, but only because she didn't want to listen to the distressed screams of those stuck inside the school.
"Now, sunshine, I know that you know that in times like this, we should go and wait in a crowded area for people to find us or maybe go home or just something. But there's somewhere else we actually really need to be in, there isn't a lot of time left."
Giving her not even a second to respond, he dragged her to a car and drove on without listening to her input.
