"This is so difficult." Meihua complained after missing yet another shot. "Just keep shooting until you get it."
The older seemed tired. "Hey, Haizhen, are you tired?" "No... Just thinking." "About what?"
She hesitated for a second, debating whether she should voice her thoughts or just keep them as flashes in her mind. "Should I tell you?" "If you want, I guess." Meihua shrugged, preparing herself to shoot again.
"Home, family. I miss them." "Could you go back? Do they live in China?" "No... Even if they did, I would never be able to go back. They wouldn't want me." Haizhen took in a shaky breath, still unsure if she was comfortable talking about her feelings like this.
"I'm sure they would." "I'm a killer, Meihua. You don't know me, you don't know who I am. I'm a bad person, and I know they don't want to see me ever again. But that doesn't make me not miss them, even after everything I put them through, I'm still selfish enough to miss them."
She sighed. "I'm not sure I understand." "Great, and let's keep it that way. Shoot again."
Meihua was closer that time, but still not spot on. After doing so, she dropped the gun all together, and turned to face Haizhen this time.
"Haizhen you seem burdened, you can tell me you know-" "I'm burdened because my parents are both dead and I've been trying so damn hard to forget that but so much shit keeps coming up that I can't."
The older girl buried her head in her palms, breathing gently. Meihua wasn't sure whether to rub her back or just leave her or talk to her. Instead, she turned back to her training, not waiting for Haizhen's prompt before shooting again.
