Khai was drunk.

Sapnap laughed at something over the discord call, and Khai giggled, taking a sip of her drink. She felt impulsive, stupid, and just plain happy. She hadn't felt this happy in a while, but now she was on good terms with Sam, had a plan to fix the mess her mom had made, and everything seemed good.

"I'm going to text Sam." Khai announced. Sapnap clapped his hands in glee.

"Call him pretty." He giggled.

Khai grinned. "Should I tell him it's you saying that?"

"Nah, he'd probably fall for me. Better to leave you two together. Now do it."

"Why?" She laughed, but she was already taking out her phone.

"He needs to be told he's pretty." Sapnap replied, indignant.

khai
sam you're pretty

sam
yeah i know
so are you

Khai's eyes widened and she faught a smile, swallowing thickly. "Sapnap, I don't like this game anymore."

He laughed. "What happened?"

"I said 'you're pretty', and he said 'I know, so are you'."

"I sense e-sex." Sapnap giggled horrifically.

"I don't." Khai said, wrinkling her nose.

"I do." Sapnap replied, laughing again. "I'm gonna go. Night night, Khai."

"Goodnight!" She called as he hung up. She picked up her phone again and read through her messages with Sam.

khai

Khai fell asleep very happy.

( . . . )

"Ok, so, you wanna go home for Christmas?" Sam asked Khai as they sat on a discord call, the next afternoon.

"I have to. For Jas." Khai replied.

"Yeah." Sam nodded, although Khai couldn't see him. "Do you want to tell your parents we're together?"

"I mean, I kind of have to, right?" Khai asked, reddening. "Otherwise my mom will keep up the girlfriend narrative."

"Right." Sam coughed awkwardly. "Ok. So... you're coming home?"

She hesitated. "I guess so?"

"Awesome." He grinned, and she grinned too.

Problem solved, right?
