Khai was having a panic attack.
Her chest was heaving as she paced her bedroom, eyes watering.
She was having a panic attack.
It had been six months since she ghosted him. It had been four months since he stopped bothering with the daily texts. This text, the simple yet cryptic "hey", this text hurt more than the day she realised he had stopped trying.
Fuck.
She picked up her phone again.
Khai had never been in a relationship. Khai had never had her first kiss. Khai had only had one crush in her entire life. Khai was deathly scared of love. Love was made to fade away. It never lasted. It ruined everything. That much, she had learned from her parents. Two strangers, eternally bound by a piece of metal. She knew love would take Sam away from her. So she stopped. She stopped loving him. Or, she tried. She cut him off.
She still loved him.
She was dialling the number before she knew what she was doing, trying to slow her breathing as she put her phone on speaker and put it on the pillow, lying next to it.
"Hello?" The familiar texan accent spoke, and Khai shook her head, trying to control her breathing.
"He texted. He texted me." She mumbled, holding her hands over her eyes.
"Ah. Shit." Sapnap replied.
"It's been four months."
"Since what?"
"Since he last texted me." She felt stupid. It all felt stupid. "Why did he text?"
"Calm down, Kay." He said, using her nickname. She hadn't heard that in a while. She inhaled. "He probably just heard about you joining the SMP."
"Fuck. That's bad. Isn't it? I ghost him and then join like, the biggest thing he's doing right now. That's mean. I'm being mean."
"Stop beating yourself up. You're doing this to get him back, right? That isn't mean."
"Uh-" Khai faltered. "I didn't tell you that."
"It's, like, the most obvious thing ever. Jesus." He muttered.
"I can hear you rolling you eyes. Asshat."
"Yeah, yeah. Just reply. I'm gonna go. I don't wanna be here for when it turns into an argument or e-sex between you and Sam. Bye. Love you."
"Uh- mhm." Khai hummed in reply as Sapnap hung up. She navigated to the message, inhaling. It was just a text. It was small.
