It was five in the morning, and Khai was watching the sun rise. She still hadn't slept.

"Good morning Khai!" Sam's mom said, opening the back door. "Did you sleep alright?"

"Yeah, I did. Thanks, Gina." Khai lied as the woman sat on a deck chair next to her, handing her a cup of coffee.

"It's supposed to be lovely today." Gina observed, looking up at the sky. Khai glanced up, humming in agreement. "I'm so glad you're here Khai. It's been so long."

"Yeah, it has." Khai replied with a small smile.

"Sam missed you. He didn't say it, but I could tell. He's always liked you." Gina said, leaning in to Khai with a mischievous grin. "Now, he'd shoot me dead for telling you, but he has a bit of a thing for you."

A blush arose on Khai's cheeks and she looked away, the kiss replaying in her mind. "That's... good to know."

"Good to know?" Gina asked, laughing. "Oh. Ah. You young kids. Have fun with that." Khai laughed with the older woman, the two of them sharing a small glance.

"Morning, Momma. Morning Khai." Sam said, walking out, shielding his eyes from the sun. "It's bright."

"I was just leaving. I'm going to my sisters house. I'll be back later." Gina said, standing up. She glanced to Khai. "What a nice chat." She said with a grin, before turning and leaving.

"Nice chat? What's that about?" Sam asked, taking Gina's place.

"You know. The weather." Khai replied, looking over at Sam. He was gorgeous, he really was. He had beautiful eyes and such a bright smile. Guilt churned in her stomach. That was the Sam she had hurt when she left. She knew they were passed it, but that's because he didn't know why. She should tell him. She knew that. But she wanted to savour this for a moment.

"You're staring." Sam said, snapping her out of the trance. "What, I'm just that beautiful?" He teased.

"Yep. That's it." Khai replied, nodding. "You're so handsome and lovely. Sam my beloved."

Sam laughed. "Beloved? Starting to sound like Ranboo."

"I wish I was that tall." Khai laughed.

"I am that tall." Sam said confidently.

"I can't believe you lied for that long about your height."

"It wasn't a lie, just a stretch of the truth."

"Yeah, a five inch stretch of the truth."

"Whatever." Sam said, and the pair were laughing again.

This is what Khai wanted to savour before it all blew up.
