Khai found Sam in the kitchen, sitting at the island, scrolling through his phone, and she walked around the counter so she was standing, leaning against it, across from him. She took a second to just look at him, before he looked up and smiled at her. "Hey." He said softly.

"Hi." Khai replied with a small smile.

"Can we talk?" He asked. Khai blinked, nodding slowly. "The, uh, the kiss."

"Yeah." She said, averting her eyes. "The kiss."

"That- it meant something, right?" He said hesitantly, searching her face for a reaction.

She didn't give one.

"Don't all kisses?" She mumbled.

Sam frowned. "Where do we go from here?"

Khai finally met his eyes, stomach churning. "Where do you want to go from here?"

"Places?" He said after a moment. "I don't want it to be... a one time thing."

Khai looked down again and smiled, despite her inner turmoil. "Me neither."

"Alright."

"But Sam-" Khai said quickly. "I have to tell you something."

Sam furrowed his brows. "Okay."

"Remember I said I would tell you why I... left, if you needed to know." Khai started.

Sam nodded.

"I think you need to know." She said, her voice almost a whisper.

"I ghosted you because I was in- because I had feelings for you." She said, staring at the counter, her hands clasped in front of her. "I couldn't deal with it. So I left."

The silence pained Khai, and when she finally looked up, she saw Sam, staring at her, jaw clenched, a questioning look in his eyes. They locked eyes and then he shook his head, looking down.

"Say something. Please." Khai pleased after another stretch of silence.

Sam let out a harsh laugh. "I don't know what you want me to say."

"Sam- I-"

"No," he stood up. "I think I need to take a bit to clear my head." He walked to the door. "See you later Khai."

Khai walked out into the back garden and sat on the patio, head in her hands, knees tucked into her chest, simply letting the tears fall as the sun shone above her.
