Khai put her phone away and joined Sam in the kitchen. "Ready?" She asked, making a face. Sam nodded, slipping his hand into hers, which made her heart stop for a second.

The pair made their way down the road to Khai's childhood home, standing on the porch, unmoving.

"Knock." Sam whispered.

"Give me a minute." Khai replied.

"No. Knock. We're already late."

"Yes, because we want to be on time for this." She replied, but pressed a finger to the doorbell.

The door swung open, and Khai's mom stood there, looking from Khai, to Sam, to their interlocked hands.

"Sam. Khai, you didn't say you were bringing a guest." She hissed, plastering on a fake smile.

Khai shrugged. "I just thought it would be a good time to bring my boyfriend to a family dinner."

"Boyfriend? I-"

"Didn't know, of course. Maybe that's why you went and told everyone I have a girlfriend."

Her mom made a face. "Please, be polite. Sam, come in."

"Oh yes. Sorry. Where are my manners!" Khai let out a bitter laugh. "What's for dinner, Alice." Sam raised his eyebrows at the obvious avoidance of saying mom, and Alice glared.

"Khai!" Jas cried excitedly, running to the door. Sam wrapped her arms around her little sister, the two hugging for almost a minute, before the went to pull apart. Khai pulling Jas back in, whispering in her ear. "Sam's my boyfriend for tonight. I told you two months ago." Has nodded, smiling, and stepped back. "Hiya, Sam." Jas said, waving a little. He gave a wave of his own in reply, and the four made their way to the dinner table.

"Hi Dad." Khai said casually, seeing him already at the table. She saw Alice bristle at the use of Dad but not Mom, but didn't say anything.

"Khai! Hi! And- Sam!" He said, waving. "Nice to see you, Sam."

"They're dating." Alice said, setting food down on the table.

"Good on you two!" He said cheerily, and Khai snorted, sitting at the table next to Sam and Jas.

Soon, everyone was sitting down, eating in complete silence.

"So, how long have you two been together?" Alice asked.

Khai looked at Sam. "Three months." She said, and Sam nodded.

"Wow. Funny we're only finding out now." She muttered.

"I knew." Jas said. Alice glared at her.

"Well, anyway. I'm glad you got over that lesbian phase, Khai."

Khai dropped her fork. "It wasn't a phase, Alice, or a lesbian phase. I am bisexual. I like women and men. The fact that I am dating a man doesn't take away the fact that I'm bisexual." She stood up. "You know what, I think we should go. Bye, Jas, sorry I couldn't stay for longer. Bye Dad. Fuck you, Alice." She said, and grabbed Sam's hand and left.
