Poet's Note: This is an important disclaimer. I wrote this poem with the pure intention of highlighting some influential, brave, powerful, and underrated women of history and inspiring modern day young women to believe in themselves. Any possibly derogatory reference made to "men" implies SOME men, not all men. This is not intended to insult males in any way, only to honor females and the things we have had to overcome as a gender that men have not struggled with nearly as much. Please do not take anything the wrong way. I wrote this out of love, inspiration, and historical truth, not with hateful voice.

1428-
She is but 16.
She gives her life for her country.
She hides a sword in her skirts' seams.
1559-
She sits upon a throne.
She has no man ever known.
She sparks an era of her own.
1608-
She stands up for change.
She won't let hate keep her away.
She knows all peoples bleed the same.
1777-
She rides through the rain.
She warns and rallies soldiers to wake.
She receives only a message in thanks.
1850-
She won't just run.
She will risk it all to save each one.
She parts the seas into freedom.
1861-
She doesn't fear war.
She gets no credit for her roles.
She goes where no man has before.
1907-
She dies for a cause.
She inspires all alike to revolt.
She under no torture will talk.
1917-She fuels the fire's burn.
She stands for what all sisters deserve.
She pushes the pen to the words.
1943-
She proves women's spirit.
She flies for patriotism.
She takes to the skies fierce and fearless.
1955-
She refuses to move,
She says, black or white, she's human too,
She defies centuries unjust and cruel.
1979-
She hears a call.
She has no intention but love.
She saves lives, souls, and hearts.
2012-
She won't be silenced.
She is stronger 'cause of their violence.
She's more determined to right this.
2021-
She reads these small words.
She's got power feared by the world.
She won't let them demean her worth...
Like fire, like ice,
Sisters, it's time to unite;
For pride, respect, equal rights,
We don't have to live by their lies.
Take a dream, take a chance,
We have voices they can't suppress;
Our courage shines under duress,
Ladies, change what the records have said.
We're not just women, we're knights,
We're the ultimate ones who survive;
For millenniums, justice we've been denied,
And some men claim we don't 'fight'.
Girls of the world, you're all queens,
Though some men are too weak to see;
To the future, females are the key,
They don't know what's coming.
So watch out history—
You haven't seen the last of the "shes".

A free shoutout AND reads and comments on a few chapters of one of her stories to the first lady to correctly comment who each of these historical women was/is! (*hint* look at the years ;)
Note that I did my best to include women from all over the world, from different nations and cultural backgrounds, and ones whom I figured you guys would recognize. So, give it a shot!
Ladies, remember that these women were all just girls like you once. They made a choice to take a stand for something they believed in, for a dream. They didn't necessarily have resources or 'the means', but they made their own way. It isn't impossible! And you can leave your mark on this world too. You just have to take a little leap of faith.
The going won't be easy. This world, whether by person or nature, will try to hold you back. It will try to convince you that there's no way little, insignificant you could ever make an impact, do something worthwhile, but when you give in... you're only proving it right. Prove it wrong.
I, for one, can't wait to see what you all bring to this planet and era.
Happy Women's History Month!
