A TRIAL RUN IS WHAT LOKI AND KAJSA CALLED IT. It made her feel better about Loki's request for her to be queen.
It was also a reminder that their reign wasn't technically permanent. Loki felt otherwise since it was unknown when the Allfather would awake, which prolonged Thor's return. But he agreed.
Kajsa was willing to try, and that was enough for him.
Already she hated being pampered, dressed, picked, and prodded. The process of making her look the part was rather exhausting. However, she couldn't deny that the result was worth it.
Kajsa had dressed for special occasions, but not like this. She'd stared in the mirror, finding herself almost unrecognizable.
Loki, of course, loved it just as much, if not more. He couldn't keep his eyes off of Kajsa as she entered the throne room.
Loki stood from the throne, looking mighty in his ceremonial headdress and Gugnir in his hand.
"My, my, my," he held his hand out to her. "Look at you . . ."
Kajsa carefully climbed the stairs, taking his hand. "Do you like it?" she blushed.
"I love it," he kissed her hand.
Smiling, Kajsa looks around, noticing the guards bowing to her - well them.
"Here," Loki placed her beside the throne before sitting down.
Kajsa looked down at him with an eyebrow arch. There was no one in the room, yet Loki looked like a man on top of the world. Just sitting on the throne gave him a sense of manhood, authority - power. He was absolutely over the moon and not in a righteous way.
It made Kajsa uneasy.
When he looked up at her, she quickly smiled.
"Don't you just love how it feels to be up here?" he was smiling sadistically. A side of him that Kajsa had never known was presenting itself, and Loki was too self-involved to notice.
Kajsa opened her mouth to respond but couldn't find the words to speak or agree. All she could feel was worry about the twisted heart of the man she loved.
She caressed Loki's cheek, "You needn't get comfortable." Kajsa made sure to laugh jokingly. "Your father will wake up, and Thor will return at any moment."
"We'll see about that," Loki grinned mischievously, kissing her hand and looking away.
"The house of Odin is full of traitors," Laufey's words suddenly rang in her mind.
"He's not one of us," she recalled her father's words years ago.
Kajsa gulped, the puzzle pieces of the present circumstances suddenly coming together.
It was apparent that her husband had a plan—a plan that had started long before he warned Heimdall about their trip to Jutonheim.
A plan that he was purposely keeping her out of the loop about.
Going back and forth about if she should question him or not, Kajsa's thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of Sif and the Warriors Three.
They were shocked to see Loki on the throne and Kajsa at his side.
"Where's Odin?" Fandral asked as they approached.
"Father has fallen into the Odinsleep," Loki informs them solemnly. "Mother fears he may never wake again."
"We would speak with her," requested Sif.
"She has refused to leave my father's bedside. You can bring your urgent matter to us." Loki stood proudly. He strikes Gugnir on the ground, the vibration bouncing around the room. "You're king and queen."
