KAJSA STOOD IN THE WINDOW OF LOKI'S CHAMBERS AS SHE QUIETLY AWAITED HIS ARRIVAL. She didn't know how to approach the situation.
Was it wise for her to be brass and ask if he had anything to do with the frost giants getting into Asgard? Or maybe it was best not to pry and wait until Loki confessed.
Part of her was afraid there was nothing for him to confess. Maybe she'd simply been looking too deep into all that's transpired, and Sif and the Warriors Three had just gotten inside her head.
It wouldn't be too far-fetched.
Either way, she knew her husband enough to know that he wouldn't take well to her suddenly questioning his motives.
Perhaps that was the reason she needed to confront him - because she hadn't asked enough questions.
The doors to the chambers opened, and Kajsa turns to greet her beloved.
"You asked for me," Loki greeted her with a kiss on the cheek. He'd left his headdress and Gugnir in the throne room.
"I did," Kajsa took his hand and sat him down.
Loki wearily kept his eyes on her, noticing her sudden burst of confidence in her posture alone. "Is something wrong?"
"It depends," Kajsa looked at him head-on. "Is there something you need to tell me?"
Loki chuckled, "I'm not sure what you're implying, darling. Did I do something to trouble you?"
"We'll let's see," Kajsa stood and began to pace casually. "Your desire to be king is not a secret nor your jealousy toward your brother. His coronation gets interrupted, he gets banished, your father falls asleep, and now you're treating friends as peasants. As if we didn't fight by their side just the other day."
She stops to look at him, that mischievous smile on his face not as handsome as it once was.
"Sweetheart," he stood.
"Do not play me for a fool Loki," she sucked in a breath, lowering her tone. "People are talking. They are saying things that even I, your wife, cannot merely overlook in the name of love."
Kajsa took his hand, desperate to know the truth. "I've stood by your side as your friend and as your wife. I need you to be honest with me. Tell me you have no hand in what's occurred."
Loki gulped, pulling his hand from her grasp. "If I did, I'd be lying to you."
"It seems you've already had," a furious Kajsa started to leave.
Loki quickly stood in front of her, blocking her way. "Please, listen to me."
"How could you?" she asked him. "To your brother? After all that he's done for us? For you?"
"Thor's punishment was not a part of the plan, I swear it."
"Then to Asgard?" she asked him. "People could have gotten hurt."
"And you think I'd let it get that far?"
"I don't know what to think!" she yelled, angry tears dotting her eyes.
Kajsa turned away, feeling like a love-sick fool and ultimately feeling betrayed.
"Darling," Loki's gulped worriedly.
"I know your desire for the throne was great, but this . . ." she held her stomach, weary.
"That's the thing, I'm doing this for us," he assured her. "We deserve that throne."
"I don't want the throne!" she turned to him.
"Well, you wanted to be my side, did you not?" Loki was getting frustrated himself.
"Not like this, Loki. Not scheming and betrayal and lies . . ."
"Listen," Loki grasped her arms. "I know it looks bad, but you have to believe me. I'm doing this for the good of Asgard and our future together. Thor is not fit to be king."
"And neither are you," Kajsa gritted her teeth.
Her words were like a stab to the gut. She could have sworn she heard Loki's heart shatter to the ground like glass.
"You don't mean that."
"Oh, I do," she nodded.
"No, no, no," Loki shook his head in denial. "I thought you were different. I thought -"
"I am different. I'm the only one with enough guts to tell you to your face rather than whisper behind your back. Just as your brother, you must earn the throne. You don't get to take it. You must show you are worthy, and you've shown everything except that."
Her words were like gas to a fire, adding to Loki's rage. His grip on her arms begins to tighten.
"Loki," she swallowed.
He didn't reply, his infuriation having taken over.
"Loki, you're hurting me."
"I thought you loved me," he gritted his teeth, a vein popping from his neck.
"I said you're hurting me!" she screamed, wielding her photokinesis to blast him away.
Loki collided with the wall and hit the ground with a thud. He stirred on the groaning, panting in agony.
Kajsa stands above him, their gazes locking.
"I do love you," her eyes were full of affection and adoration. "That is why I will not be an accomplice to your madness."
"There's nothing you can do to stop me," he fumed. "With my father asleep and my mother in the fragile state she is, no one can stop me. Not even my brother."
"But just like him, your arrogance will be the end of you." Kajsa picked up her gown and quickly headed for the door.
Loki was right with the king and queen occupied. There was no one to stop Loki. At least not anyone in Asgard.
After getting dressed for battle, Kajsa retrieved Induna and rode across the rainbow bridge in a hurry. To her surprise, when she arrived, her father wasn't standing guard. He was inside the observatory speaking to Sif and the Warriors Three.
Fortunately, she wasn't the only one with the plan to save Loki from himself and Asgard. Finding Thor was the only solution.
"You would defy the commands of Loki our King, break every oath you have taken as warriors, and commit treason to bring Thor back?" Heimdall asked the four.
"Yes," Kajsa said, grabbing everyone's attention. She walked over to join the group. "It seems to be the only way."
She looked at her father apologetically.
Heimdall only nodded as she received a pat on the back from her friends.
"Good," he said.
"So, you'll help us?" Sif asked, hopeful.
Heimdall gives Kajsa his sword. "I am bound by honor to our king. I cannot open the Bifrost to you." After kissing her on the forehead, he starts to leave.
Kajsa smiles, exchanged glances with a relieved Sif and Warriors Three.
"But I'm not," she climbed the stairs, inserting the sword in the apparatus.
As it revved up, she and the group quickly boarded the platform, getting sent off to Midgard. Also known as earth.
