The past
In tow beside Loki, Kajsa raked her hands through the various flowers as they kept a casual pace around the garden. Being outside helped her nerves a bit.
The garden was also a place that she and Loki spent much time together. They'd talk for hours. Well, Loki would mainly.
Kajsa found herself always listening to him about his dreams to be a leader one day and make his father proud. Make his father see that he's just as great as Thor and then some.
They even had a little hideout in the back of the garden that Loki made for her. Only they knew of the tall set of hedges that hid their secret sanctuary. There was a bench and a broken fountain there.
Still very much nervous, Loki quietly watched her pick a flower and smell it. For what seemed like the hundredth time, he opened his mouth to speak but found himself speechless.
It was unusual considering Loki always had something to say.
"I'm sorry," he managed to get out. "I'm not sure what to say or rather how to say it."
"It's all right," Kajsa nodded understandingly. "Take your time."
Even in a moment like this, she was patient with him. It was one of the things that he loved about her.
Loki starts mouthing to himself to stop being an idiot and tell her how he feels.
Kajsa bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. She pretended not to notice so he wouldn't feel any more nervous than he already was.
Finding herself impatient, she stops and turns to him.
"Loki/Kajsa -" they spoke at the same time.
"You first/I'll go."
"Okay, I'll go/ okay, you first."
They share a laugh.
"I'll go first if you don't mind," Loki swallowed.
She nods, desperate to his heart.
"Kajsa, you hold a special place in my life. A special place that I didn't know I even had. Growing up, I didn't think I'd ever meet someone who saw and understood me. But the day that we first talked, the day -"
"You and Thor beat up Brant for me," she recalled with a teary-eyed laugh.
"Yes," Loki chuckled. "That day, someone how even then I knew, a life without you just wasn't a life I wanted to live. Though back then, I saw you as my best friend and I still do but . . . now I see you as more than that and -"
Finding it difficult to express himself again, Loki clears his throat. "I-"
Kajsa nods for him to keep talking.
"I . . ."
Thinking fast, Loki does the last thing Kajsa was expecting. He kissed her.
Kajsa stared at his wrinkled, pale eyelids, astonished. He was squeezing his eyes shut so hard, putting all that he had into the kiss.
Her eyes slowly started to shut as she realized how soft his lips were and the fireworks that exploded in her stomach.
Loki pulls away, leaving her lips wavering for more. He giggled, pulling her out of her trance.
"I'm sorry," he blushed, running a finger over his bottom lip. "I should have asked."
"And ruin the element of surprise?" Kajsa made him laugh. "Besides, you can always ask again."
