Kajsa twisted the gold wedding band around her finger as she stared out the window. The sun had just risen, showing the Destroyer's damage to the town. With the help of Darcy, Jane, and Dr. Selvig, she'd agreed to help the community clean up later. She felt like it was the least she could do.
Kajsa stayed the night at Darcy's apartment. It was small and had one room with a pullout couch, a kitchen, and a bathroom. She was used to a luxurious style of living but found it all rather cozy.
As Kajsa stared wistfully at her wedding ring, she suddenly felt the longing of her father.
Heimdall was reaching out to her.
Closing her eyes, Kajsa answered his call.
When she opened them, she could see through his eyes. She found herself in the observatory, standing on the apparatus.
With his back turned to her, Heimdall sat on the stairs.
"I - is he dead?" her voice croaked.
"He is."
Closing her eyes, Kajsa fought tears. She clears her throat, walking down the stairs to her father. When she sits next to him, Heimdall doesn't say a word. He just keeps his gaze forward.
"The bridge was destroyed. It was the only way to save Asgard."
"Then that's all that matters; that Asgard is saved, I mean."
"But how will you get home?" Heimdall finally looks at her, tears streaming down his face. He wore his typical scowl, but the pain of a broken father beamed in his eyes.
"Even if the bridge weren't destroyed. I don't plan on coming home for a while," Kajsa was honest.
"But Asgard is your home."
"I know, and it always will be, but I need some time away. I need to find out who Kajsa is. Do you understand?"
"I don't have a choice, do I?"
"No," sadly shook her head, leaning on his shoulder.
The father and daughter sat quietly, staring at the starry galaxy.
"You knew that Loki was adopted, didn't you?" Kajsa broke the silence after a while.
"I did. I just want to protect you, Kajsa."
"I know, and though I'm not sorry for loving Loki. I am sorry for letting myself ignore what was apparent for some time - what Loki was or was turning into."
"I'm sorry for not supporting you and Loki."
Surprised by his apology, Kajsa lifts her head to look at him.
"Maybe if I'd swallowed my pride, you'd be here in my arms."
"Oh, father," Kajsa embraced him, crying.
Heimdall embraces tightly, squeezing his eyes shut.
Sniffling, Kajsa caresses. "We'll see each other again. I promise."
"Until then, I'll keep an eye on you."
She laughs, "of course."
Heimdall pats her head, finding the beanie and her new attire quite odd.
"Yes, I know, it's what they wear on earth. Quite odd, isn't it?" she poked the sagging part of the beanie.
"You look beautiful," Heimdall made her blush.
"I love you father."
He kisses her on the forehead, "I love you too."
Kajsa opens her eyes, still standing in front of the window in Darcy's apartment. She wipes her wet eyes, sniffling.
Hearing Darcy stir in her sleep, she looks over at her. The snoring brunette woke up startled when she noticed Kajsa.
"I forgot you were here," she squinted at her alarm clock.
It just hit seven in the morning.
"Did you sleep it all?"
"I told you, gatekeepers don't sleep."
"Right," Darcy yawned.
Kajsa adjusted the beanie on her head. "I hope you don't mind that I borrowed some of your clothes. I figured I should try to fit in."
"It's no biggie," Darcy rolled back over to go back to sleep.
Kajsa smiled as she put on a sweater.
She liked Darcy. Not only was she incredibly genius, but laid back and very much amusing.
Kajsa headed for the door. "I shall return soon."
"Okay, okay," Darcy mumbled, already half asleep.
Kajsa left the apartment, slipping outside into the busy, chill morning. It was so early that no one was around. It felt like a ghost town.
As Kajsa walked the streets, she kept an eye on Ahshrune. She'd dropped her sword in battle and couldn't sense its presence anywhere. She looked under cars and rubble but found nothing.
"Where could it be?" she mumbled to herself with a sigh.
Suddenly a black car with tinted windows pulls up in front of her. She takes a cautious step back as a white man with dark shades wearing a suit and tie gets out.
And what do you know - he held Ashrune.
"Looking for this?" he took off his shades.
"I am," she nodded. "Who are you, and why do you have my sword?"
"Shield Agent Phil Coulson," he held out a hand.
She reluctantly shook it, "Kajsa."
"I know. We've seen you in action."
"We?" Kajsa raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, we. Tell me, Kajsa. How'd you like to change the world?"
Kajsa thinks for a long moment, "I'm listening."
