As Thursday morning rolled in, the sky was a dark grey, barely any light peeking through.

We were expecting a rainstorm and a mix of light snowfall throughout the day, our expectations had come to life. The rain was pouring down onto the shingles on the roof and slipping onto the concrete of the sidewalk, flowing down the streets.

Lightning struck every once in a while with a loud bang of thunder roaring through the sky afterward.

It was nearly 7 when I was sat in my sweatpants and plain hooded sweatshirt watching a YouTube video on my phone with Christmas socks covering my toes.

It's been three days and we still haven't sent each other any form of communication. I began to wonder how he was coping with the pain seeping through between us.

As I stared out my window, watching the rain collide onto the streets and bouncing up with a small splash, a familiar car slowed in front of our house on the opposite side of the street.

Its headlights were bright and its windshields were moving side to side in a rapid motion.

Before I could even process my thoughts, Josh stepped out of the driver's door, stuffing a couple of unknown items into his pockets.

The rain almost immediately soaked him, making his hair damp. He was dressing in sweats and a hoodie, likewise, I thought.

He started jogging up to the duplex home while shifting his hood above his head.

Without thinking I opened my window-thank god there wasn't a lightening on the outside-, stuck my head out and yelled his name.

His eyes connect with mine halfway up the pathway to the front door but he cuts the path and comes straight up to my window.

His face was level with mine, the perks of having a first-floor window.

"What the hell?" I yell quietly, but loud enough for him to hear.

His face is panicked, worried. "I had to see you."

I raised my window, grabbing him by his upper arms and trying my best to pull him in.

Once he had helped himself in, I shut my window and lock it. I stand there, my hair was also soaked into a darker blonde with water droplets dripping from the ends, in disbelief.

"What? Why... why are you... wha-" I stutter out, my mind bursting with curiosity but it wasn't long until he took a step towards me and placed his hand on the back of my neck, pulling me into a deep kiss.

It lasted a few seconds until we pulled apart with a sound. My hands were now placed in his wet waves behind his ears.

"Savannah, I am so sorry." He rushes out. "I- I wasn't thinking about what I would say, I was shocked and angry and I didn't know what to do."

"Josh, it's okay. I should have told you sooner. I had no right to keep it from you for so long. It was unacceptable. I'm sorry." I explain.

"It's okay, I knew it must've been hard but can we promise each other something?" He asks, hope glittering behind his eyes.

I nod.

"Can you promise me that we will never keep anything from each other again? No matter how painful, no secrets. Okay?" He extends his right pinky out for mine to loop, and I do.

"Okay," I nearly whispered. "I promise you, no secrets."

I kiss my thumb as he does him and we connect them, locking in the promise.

His hands dig into his pockets and pull out a small"I got you something."

His hand opens to reveal a small box with a tie around it. He slides it onto my hand and I gratefully untie it and open it to show a small gold necklace.

In the center, it had a small heart, and engraved into it was a "J". I stare at it in adoration then my eyes move to him where he ticks his hand into his shirt and pulls out a silver necklace attached to his neck with the same sized heart in the middle except engraved with an "S"

"I love it." I love you. That is what I almost said no matter how badly I wanted to. "Josh, thank you."

"Let me put it on. I'm glad because I was scared you weren't." He laughs lightly. I turn my back to him and lift my dampened hair.

His fingers graze my neck as he places the dainty material softly on my chest and booking it in the back.

I shut my eyes for a moment, taking it all in.

His lips come in contact with my neck to plant a soft kiss, his hands firmly on his shoulders.

"Josh, did you drive an hour through a storm to get here?" I ask questionably, I would feel terrible if he did, he knows that.

"Now, baby, that's classified." He says, a smirk forming upon his lips.

I suddenly blurt out the words off the top of my head: "Then stay."

"What?" He says but all I can do is turn to face him. "What about your dad?"

"He won't know, he doesn't come in here. Please? I would hate for you to drive back and this is my last chance to see you for a while."

I stare at him in utter sorrow as he does the same to me.

With a sigh, he agrees. "Fine, but you have to feed me."

At that, his arms are securely wrapped around my shoulders, mine around his waist. We stood there, holding each other as if we couldn't let go and I never believed that we could.

The man standing within my protective arms was the man that I loved and he had no idea just how much.

Standing here in his arms with my head nuzzled into his woolen shirt, his lips kissing my hair and forehead, I felt like there was nothing else in the world that would ever make me feel safer.
