"y/n for the love of christ almighty, could you please clean your room! it's like you blew up a whole nation in there!"

your mom was partially correct.

your room did precisely look like you set off a grenade inside it, but due to the procrastination that ran in the family, you decided another day would be better.

"not now, mom-!"

"well can you at least clean out the basement?! it's fairly clean so there's not much to do!" that was a deal you could accept, the basement was indeed particularly tidy since no one really set foot inside. dumping your phone beside you on your bed, you slid off the mattress, now grumpy at the loss of contact with the cosy comforts of your bed.

maybe you should've just stayed in bed.

trudging out of your room, you headed down the stairs, walking past your brother on the way.

"you're at your wit's end."

"not like you're any better on bad days." raising your eyebrows at him, he furrowed his in turn, rolling his eyes as he muttered a 'whatever' under his breath, continuing watching whatever was on his phone. you shoved past him, now walking towards the basement door.

it looked ancient, historic even with the wood decaying in some corners. the paint on the door itself was chipping, appearing rough and scratchy, nothing unusual. opening the basement door, you quickly sprinted down the stairs, not wanting to touch any of the dust in the room.

well, you were being forced to now.

"what to clean first?.." peering around the room, there was a few jobs you could do:

1. clear up the empty cardboard boxes.

they were left there as a result of your family moving into the house you currently lived in, no one really touched them because of the gathering dust and cobwebs.

2. dust the entire room.

you didn't particularly like that option.

3. check out the creepy mysterious box underneath a bookshelf in the corner of the room.

now that option sounded way more fitting for your style.

you were definitely right about it being creepy, the small tin was rotting due to the fact nobody had touched it for years, decades probably. edging towards it, you kneeled down once you were eventually in front of it.

it had a small metal bar poking out of it, most likely the handle, so you grasped it, pulling it open to find thousands of small pieces of paper (obviously ripped from other sources of paper) scattered inside.

"..really? that's all?" disappointed was the only word you could describe how you were feeling at this moment. there was a great chance of some sort of alternate universe and you took the opportunity, but was met with an unfortunate fate. "might as well check'em out."
