Chapter 20
The drive was long and boring except for the scenery, but even then, it got repetitive and it seemed like we were driving in circles. I got tired and rested my head on Yoshinori's shoulder, quickly falling asleep.
I suddenly woke up when I felt a soft tap on my leg and Yoshinori whispering,
"Wake up, we're here."
I lifted my head to see buildings upon buildings upon buildings. A sight I hadn't seen in years. I exited the car and thanked the driver before meeting Yoshinori on the other side.
"I wanted to hold the door open for you," Yoshinori pouted.
"Sorry, be quicker next time." I smirked and continued to take in the view in front of me. "How amazing."
I continued to stare at the many cafes and shops until one caught my eye. It was a small cafe that had an amazing smell that I recognized as coffee and pastries. I tapped Yoshinori's arm eagerly and pointed to the cafe.
"Can we go there? Please?" I begged.
"Absolutely." Without another word, I quickly took his hand and dragged him into the place.
The smell only got stronger and more pleasant as we walked through the front door.
"Welcome," greeted a small older woman kindly.
I bowed politely and proceeded to the counter to order. I looked at the small menu, deciding on a strawberry smoothie and an omelette. Yoshinori ordered similarly, except instead of an omelette, he got a breakfast sandwich.
We took out seats and waited anxiously for our food. I was especially hungry as I hadn't had anything to eat since I woke up, and I assumed that Yoshinori felt the same. I tapped my feet quickly and hoped for the food to come quickly. I glanced across from me and Yoshinori stared as I was spaced out. I decided not to avert my gaze and continued to maintain eye contact with Yoshinori, smiling back.
"How's it going?" He inquired.
"I'm hungry."
"I couldn't tell." He teased with a slight smirk.
I glared for a moment before my attention was caught by a teenager approaching us with our food. I bounced in my seat and was filled with happiness at the amazing smell overwhelming my nose as the server walked closer.
"Here's your food," she placed the tray onto the table as Yoshinori and I thanked her in unison.
I took my omelette and smoothie and placed them in front of me quickly, taking a bite. I stuffed the food into my mouth, taking sips of my smoothie occasionally.
"You were hungry," Yoshinori stated with wide eyes.
"That's what I tried to tell you!" I swallowed my food and continued, "How's your food?"
"Delicious, yours?"
"What do you think?"
"Let me think..." He paused and smiled saying, "I think you found it absolutely repulsive."
"Whatever."
I continued to finish my food and so did Yoshinori. As we exited the cafe, I wondered what we would do next. As if reading my mind, Yoshinori asked the exact question I was about to ask.
"We should just walk around and look at everything," I answered honestly.
"Sounds like a plan."
Yoshinori held my hand as we walked through the streets. I studied the people walking past and noted all sorts of people dressed in all sorts of outfits. Some wore normal jeans with long coats while others had large skirts accented further with light pinks and blues. Most people dressed in the latter were younger, probably teenagers, while older ladies dressed casually and would even send disapproving looks to the youth.
