Chapter 48

Kristen's POV

"Hello?" I say into my phone as I answer it. "Hey Kristen?" a voice says. I recognize it immediately. "Corey?" I ask concerned. "Corey what's wrong?" I ask. "Um I just got a call from the hospital," he says. My heart skips a beat. There must be something wrong with Bollig. "And?" I ask. "It's Bollig. Um, he uh. He slipped into a coma this morning." I guess when we saw the doctors rushing into a room it was his room. They took some MRI's to see what was going on and he still had a dangerous amount of toxins in his stomach and they had to go into surgery to get his stomach pumped and I guess something happened in surgery," he says. My heart sinks to my stomach. "Wh- Wha- W- What do you mean?" I ask confused. Corey doesn't say anything for a minute or two. "I- I um. I don't even know really," he says weakly. "Alright well Kris and I are flying back late tonight. I guess I'll see you guys tomorrow then. Then we can talk about it," I say practically crying. "Ok see you soon," Corey says. I can tell he's crying now.

I walk back to the table where Kris is at. I sit down and don't say anything. I just stare at the ground. "Who was that?" Kris asks when I sit down. "Um it was Corey," I say. "What did he want?" my brother asks a hint of worry in his voice. "Um. It's about Bollig. He slipped into a coma either early this morning or late last night," I tell him. "Well is he going to be ok?" Kris asks. "I'm not sure. Corey didn't say."

Corey's POV

I wake up to the sound of my phone ringing. I groan. It's 6 AM. I just wanna sleep, but I answer anyway. "Hello," I say groggily. "Hi this is Ariana Caalf from Rush Medical Center. Is this Corey Crawford?" a female voice asks. She must be a hawks fan because there's a hint of excitement in her voice. "Yeah, this is Corey," l say. "I have an update on Brandon Bollig. He slipped into a coma early this morning," Ariana says. I'm shocked. "What?! Well is he gonna be ok?" I ask. "Its hard to tell at the moment. Would you like me to keep you updated?" she asks. "Yes please," I respond. "Hey quick question. Are you the girl dating Kris Versteeg?" I add. "That's me!" she says happily. "I knew you're voice sounded familiar."
