Toni added final touches to her makeup, while also trying to ignore her mum's eyes peering at her through the dressing mirror. She did understand her mum's concern though, just last week she came back home crying about an heartbreak, now she was going out with another guy, her mum must think she was crazy. But she can't help it, there is something about Nasir that makes her feel oddly safe around him, she wanted him, it couldn't be a bad thing."You can't leave me hanging, Omotoni, who is the new guy?" Her mum's shrilled voice asked again nearly making her smear her eyeliner.
Toni capped the eyeliner and turned to face her mum. "Mum, can you just not ask me this? I don't want to lie to you."
She obviously couldn't tell her mother she was going on a date with her bike man, Toni knew that would only end her up in the asylum, and she really wanted to go on this date with Nasir. After their unintended date at the lake last week, he hadn't called her to reschedule or do anything until yesterday afternoon when he had sent her his address, telling her to show up there for their first official dinner date. Damn, it made her feel giddy, the thought of being alone with him once again was unnerving. She could still remember clearly the taste of his lips on hers, and how hot his hands had being on her bare skin. Isn't it wrong to want someone this much?
"It's him," her mum suddenly said, bringing het out of her reverie.
Toni turned to face her mum with a scared expression, she hadn't expected her mum to find out it was Nasir so soon. "It's who?"
"The one," her mum said with a vague expression. "I don't think I've ever seen you look so nervous and happy about a date, you must really like him."
Toni breathed a sigh of relief, grateful her mum hadn't found her out. "Yes, I really like him, and I'm not ready to let you know who he is yet. I want to be sure about this thing we have between us, so it will make me happy if you don't probe, Mum."
Her mum smiled, a very genuine smile. "It's okay, I'll trust you on this one."
Toni got off the stool, and twirled in front of her mum. "What do you think about my look?"
Her mum folded her arms and pouted her lips, this to show that she has put her thinking cap on. She assessed Toni's crimson velvet, spaghetti strap dress. The dress had a long slit at the right side that stopped at her upper thigh, and a sweetheart neckline. It hugged every part of her body, accentuating her curves. She also wore a simple silver heart shaped pendant, and earrings to assesorize. Her braids had being styled in a neat bun over her head, and to finish off the look, she was wearing a silver sandal heels.
"You look perfect, my daughter." Her mum clapped her hands giddily, looking like a little girl that just got a box of chocolate. "I'm very sure you'd steal his breath away, not that you haven't though."
"Thanks, mum." She picked up the silver purse on the dressing table and gave her mum one final look.
"Should I expect you home tonight?" Her mum asked with a knowing smirk on her face, like really.
Toni thought about it and a part of her knew she wouldn't be home tonight, if the heated attraction between her and Nasir was anything to go by. "No, Mum, don't expect me. I'd probably stay the night at his place."
Her mum stood up and walked over to where she stood, Toni stared at her with confusion, but that confusion was soon replaced with immense love when her mum pulled her into a hug.
"Take care, Toni, and please don't let him hurt you."
Toni sighed. She did fear the possibility of Nasir hurting her also, but it wouldn't be the first time, would it? But there was this tiny little voice in her head that told her she wasn't making a mistake. There was this promise in Nasir's eyes that promised her he wouldn't hurt her the way the other guys have, yeah, there might be less attention from him because of his work schedule and responsibilities, but aside that, she didn't think she had anything else to worry about.
