Osun, Nigeria.

Omotoni stood in front of the mirror in her father's house, staring at her reflection. And the more she looked, the more the fact that she was getting married today settled into her skull. The loud music that had woken her up this morning was still playing, and she could still hear the chatters of almost all of the relatives she had no idea she had around the large house. It was today she finally met all of the uncles she never knew existed in her life, they had all come in to pray for her one after the other this morning, and to her, it all felt too hypocritical.

Her mind let go of all useless thoughts concerning her relatives as it filled up with something more important. She was getting married today, getting married to a man she hasn't seen in over a month. In all the time they spent apart, Nasir only called her once, and Toni was sure that it was at Ummu's insistence. And even when he had called then, all he did was ask her if she was praying her five daily prayers, and if his baby was well. Like really!

She placed her hand on her slightly protruding belly, it wasn't really obvious underneath the purple aso-oke material used in sewing her dress, but she could still feel it. And anyone with an eye would see that she was pregnant, she was now four months gone and in her second trimester. It was at this point the idea of her being pregnant began to fully set in.

"Don't tell me you're still here admiring your reflection in the mirror when your husband's family are almost here." Toni turned instantly towards the door where Yeni's voice had come from to see both her mum and Yeni standing there, wearing regal dresses and beautiful smiles. They were just the people she needed to see.

"They are here?" She asked, just to be sure. She knew Nasir and his family has being in Osun since yesterday, and had lodged in a hotel. Ummu had made sure to inform her of this.

"Almost, and I must say their pockets are gonna be drained," Yeni laughed out loud, sitting herself on the bed. Toni walked over to seat beside her just as her mum did the same. "Really, that is my favorite part in a traditional wedding. It would make me happy to see Nasir being drained of his money, he should know you're expensive."

Their mum gave Yeni a slap on the back with a smile on her face, then turned to Toni. "You should know that you'll soon be called out."

Toni took in a sharp intake of breath. "Yes, Mum. I know."

"Don't tell me you're getting cold feet, sis Toni. If you're, I can help you to escape this wedding," Yeni said with a very serious expression on her face.

"No, thanks. I will not be escaping from my own wedding ceremony, I'll get married to Nasir before your two silly eyes," Toni said, sounding a lot more sure than she had ever being about anything else.

She was going to marry Nasir, and she was going to give this marriage her all. She hadn't given up everything she believed in just so she could ruin the marriage she did it for with her own two hands. She was going to make it so that Nasir never gets to stay a moment without her, she didn't know how she'll do this, but she will.

"One thing you should keep in mind is that men may behave strong headed and stupid, but no man can resist a loving wife."

Nasir wouldn't be able to resist her, she didn't have a plan of action yet, and wasn't even sure she knew how to go about it. For all she could see, it looked like he didn't even want her as much as he did then, but she still felt the same way. If he didn't, then that would be her lost because the only place she'd have an advantage over him in this marriage was in the bedroom. And she'd have to find out if he still felt the same way.

"Seems like your mind is made up, my dear," her mum said, spotting a satisfied smile.

"It has being made up all along," Toni countered.
