8. An Emptiness I Can't Fill

<Y/N's POV>

Yesterday after we had made our way to meet Eren and the whole thing with Levi squad happened my head had been killing me all day so all morning I've been avoiding my obligations.

I did however make sure to check up on Hanji throughout the night even if she didn't know it. She spent all of last night talking to Eren and telling him all about her recent titan test subjects. Of course Hanji being Hanji named them. If I remember right there names were Sawney and Bean.

The sun rose only a few hours ago I think I should start heading back to meet Hanji and Eren who are probably exactly where I last saw the in the dining hall still drinking coffee and recapping everything Eren and I learned in our cadet training.

At The Dining Hall

I walked into the dining hall and of course there were Hanji and Eren.

'Of course they stayed here the whole night'

I walk up to Hanji and Eren and the closer to them I get the more tired Eren seems to look. His eyes were dark and his face looked exhausted but Hanji of course looked the same as always as if time was only a concept to them. I walked up to them from behind Hanji so of course, Eren saw me first. The look he was giving me looked like he was begging for help. Although I feel sympathy for his exhaustion he really did it to himself everyone knows not to get Hanji started.

"Hanji," I called out to them as I approached the table they were sitting at. She turned around to see me walking up to her. Her eyes widened as if she was seeing me for the first time. I could see a light blush rush across her face. What the hell is she blushing for I didn't do anything... yet.

"Hey Y/N where have you been all night?" Eren asks me and my attention drifts from Hanji.  I take a seat on the opposite side of the table from Eren. I lean back in the chair and relax my body. I look at Eren's tired face with my face as dull as always.

"After what happened with you and your titan my head has been killing me, so I went for a walk" I explain to him. Hanji lifts their eyebrow as if they were questioning the integrity of my answer.

"You walked? For that many hours?" I sat up in my seat and rested my elbow on the table leaning towards Hanji. I can see the nervous expression grow on their face. The closer I lean into them.

"I have excellent stamina," I say to her. She opened her mouth to respond but before she could one of her assistants ran into the room and interrupted all our thoughts.

"SECTION COMMANDER THE TEST SUBJECTS.... their dead" He explains with urgency. As soon as the words left his lips we all stood and rushed out the room. I quickly followed behind Hanji and Eren followed closely behind me. We ran towards the horses and rode back to the facility that the Titans were being kept but when we arrived all you could see were the clouds of steam erupting from their bodies.

At The Experiment Site

I walk up to Hanji who hasn't said a word yet her eyes are pooling with tears. I don't know how to help them. I have no idea what to do. What the hell am I supposed to do?

"SAWNEYYYY. BEANN!!!!" She yells out as she runs toward her fallen test subjects. I watch as she grabs the sides of her head in distress in a state of total panic and grief.
