i just failed my chemistry quiz BAD but it's okay because i can just pretend it didn't happen until my grade gets updated

anyway here's a new chapter whoops

WARNINGS: mentions of murder, torture, desecration of corpses, decapitation (all as part of case), family drama

from now on i think i'll just say CASE MATERIAL as a warning instead of spoiling the case (bc we all watch CM here so it should be standard BAU case stuff) but i'll specify if it includes sexual assault because i know that can be a major trigger, lmk if that poses a problem for anyone??

Whenever Emily had a nightmare, she was affected throughout the day, so you kept looking over at her at work to see if she was alright. She would give you a little smile to reassure you; you worried nonetheless. "Are you okay?" Spencer asked.

"What? Yeah, I'm fine, why?"

"You seem worried. Either that or you're thinking really hard. You only bite and suck your bottom lip when you're thinking or anxious." You hadn't even realized you were doing it. "Are you sure you're okay? You can talk to me, Y/N, I— I wanna help,"

"Spence, I'm okay, I promise," you chuckled to convince him. He smiled slightly and nodded, then went back to doing his paperwork. Just then, Garcia sped by holding a case file, apparently quite troubling, you gathered from her speed and concerned look.

"Well, that can't be good," Emily muttered to you. You raised your eyebrows and shook your head, following everyone into the roundtable room.

"Oh boy, it is a very good thing I know how to work this thing inside and out because I don't want to see any of this," Garcia exclaimed, holding up the clicker. "Three men have been killed in Lowell, Massachusetts, each in a gruesome way. The first victim, Marcus Phelps, was exsanguinated and his body was burned postmortem, except for his hands, which is how they ID'd him with a DNA sample; the second, Jason McCauley was poisoned with cyanide, burned postmortem except his hands as well; the most recent victim, Kevin Alistair was buried alive, and then also burned except his hands," she said quickly. "And here's the worst part: all the victims' bodies were found...separately...from their heads,"

"Have the heads been found?" JJ asked.

"Yes, all the victims were posed sitting in a pew at a different Catholic church and their heads...were, uh...their heads were on the altar facing out towards the church. God, how do you guys do this?" Garcia wondered in disgust.

"None of the heads were burned?" Hotch clarified.

"Right,"

"All right. Wheels up in thirty, everyone."

Emily stopped you as you were about to leave the room, making you wait for everyone else to clear out. "Are you gonna be okay?"

"I'm fine, Em,"

"Y/N, I know that your brother—"

"Stop, Emily," you warned. The pain on her face made you regret it. "I'm sorry, love, I didn't...I'm gonna be okay." She nodded, looking down.

"Hotch doesn't...?"

"No, he doesn't know. I don't think that's gonna last, though, because we gotta go up there and work with them. This is gonna suck," you groaned.

"Are you nervous?"

"Not for him. He's just a stupid little bitch boy. I'm worried he'll say something to my parents,"

"Are they close? You don't talk about your family a lot, and I get why, but..."

"But what?"

"I'm just asking so I can help you, baby." You cupped her face with your hand. What had you done to deserve this angel?
