The day after Maia's birthday, everything seemed fine until you noticed JJ had been in the bathroom for a little while. You got up and went to check on her when she didn't return your texts.
You heard the hard breaths of JJ crying in a stall. You checked to see if there were others in the stall, and when the bathroom was empty, you said, "JJ, you alright?"
There was a sniffle before her crackling tearful voice replied, "Yeah, thanks, Y/N." You sighed to yourself.
"Can I do anything for you, Jayje?" She opened the door. Her bright pink, tear-torn face stared out at you. "Oh, honey..." She let you wrap your arms around her and she slowly reciprocated. JJ buried her face in the crick of your neck and wept. "JJ, do you need to talk?"
"I don't know what to do..."
"About what?"
"I can't..."
"You wanna get cleaned up and maybe go get some coffee? We can talk in the car?" She nodded and pulled out of the hug. She started to clean herself up, reapplying some makeup, when you asked, "Can I text Emily that we're going out?"
"Uh, yeah."
How you were allowed such frequent breaks at your job didn't exactly make sense, but seemed plot-convenient.
"So," you started, as JJ pulled out of her parking space, "what's wrong, JJ? Are you okay?"
"I broke up with Will again,"
"Oh, Jayje..."
"No, I broke up with him,"
"Oh. Well, honestly, good for you, Jayje, you're way too good for him anyway. How's Henry taking it?"
"I mean, about as good as he can. We didn't really tell him we were back together in the first place, we kept that kind of quiet from him, but he's definitely noticing something's different. I...I don't know, it's a clusterfuck,"
"God, JJ, I'm sorry. That's awful,"
"I...I'm not upset about breaking up with Will, not really. I...I, uh...god, I don't know how to say..."
"Did you come out to him?" JJ had hardly come out to anyone as bisexual, no one except you, Emily, and Spencer. This was six months ago, and she had been terrified about Will and her friends not accepting her. She nodded slightly.
"Uh, not...not like...I..." She exhaled. "Y/N, I've been...god..."
"JJ, you know you can tell me anything. If you don't want to talk about it, that's perfectly okay, too." You were stopped at a light, and she looked over at you. "What's going on, Jayje?" She stared at you with tears again in her eyes. You glanced through the windshield, you noticed something in your peripherals change. "Light's green." She blinked and turned back to the road. You drove in silence to the cafe.
Together you sat in the car drinking your coffee as JJ contemplated telling you. "I'm worried,"
"About what?"
"That you'll think I'm stupid." Her voice shook, and she looked down at the gear shift, examining the lit-up P and the dulled R, N, D, and L. "I'm sorry,"
"For what?"
"I'm being such a pain in the ass right now," she chuckled.
"JJ, you are not. What did Will do?" She furrowed her brow and looked up at you.
