"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Maia, happy birthday to you!"

Maia laughed and clapped. "Blow out the candles, lovey!" you said. Emily helped her, blowing the flames out with your daughter. "Oh, good job!" When all the candles were out, Emily tickled her and made her laugh.

"Oh, my sweet Maia, you want some cake? Yeah?" asked Emily.

"Uh-huh!"

"There we go, baby. Jack, Henry, you guys want a piece?" The boys nodded.

Maia's godparents wanted to be there for her first birthday, and you all wanted them there. They brought Jack and Henry, too, and you loved those boys to death. Henry was especially sweet with Maia. Garcia came, as well, she really loved Maia.

After cake, you all sat around as Spencer helped Maia open her gifts. He sat crisscross with Maia in his lap, and she kept getting up to grab a present. She couldn't walk far by herself, taking a few steps before crashing down. Much of the time she laughed and got right back up again, someone helping her by holding her hand or letting her hold onto their arm.

"Take that over to your daddy, Maia," Hotch told her. You tried not to laugh, as his voice was the same it always was. He nodded at Spencer, whose arms were already out to get his daughter. Maia tried to run, falling and dropping the present.

"Oh, lovey, are you okay?" you asked. You crawled over and picked up your crying daughter. Emily thought quick and grabbed the gift Maia had dropped and handed it to her, lightly shaking it. You bounced Maia on your leg, trying to calm her.

"Maia, sweetheart, look, from Auntie JJ, you wanna open it?" Maia took the box from Emily and tried to open it. "Here, let Mama help you." Emily ripped a bit to get Maia started. Your daughter quieted when she saw the big stuffed turtle. You smiled as Emily said, "Oh, Maia, you like that? Yeah, my lovey?"

"Uh-huh!" She was mesmerized by this simple turtle.

"Yeah? You like it?" asked JJ with a smile.

"She loves it," Spencer confirmed. JJ grinned at him.

You had your legs over Emily's lap, she played with your hair as your head was on her chest. The TV played through the soft kisses Emily gave your head. "I love you so much, baby," she kept whispering.

"I love you, Emmy," you murmured to her. She held you a little tighter. If you fell asleep right there, Emily wouldn't have had a care in the world. "Do you think Maia had a good day?"

"Hmm?"

"I know she won't remember, she's a baby, but do you think we did a good job?" Emily shuffled a little, but kept you comfortable.

"Baby, we did great. That kid...that kid was so happy today. She's a year old, my love, she was probably just happy to have cake and toys. Plus...the cake was delicious and we still have, like, half of it left, can I get you a piece?" You scrunched up your face and pouted up at her. "What, love?"

"I don't want you to leave me." She tilted your chin up to kiss you on the lips.

"I would never leave you, sweet girl, I love you way too much. I need you, sweetheart, I need you in my life. I would never leave you, alright?"

You stared up at her for a second, a deadly serious and sad expression on her face. You couldn't help but crack up, and she looked slightly hurt before you stopped cold. "Emsy, I love you so so so much, and I wouldn't ever leave you either, I didn't mean to hurt you. Not at all, baby. Honey, I literally just meant that I didn't want you to get up to go to the fridge." She started laughing and threw you out of her lap.

"You're dumb," she laughed as she went to the fridge to cut two slices of cake.

You ate cake together on the couch, making sure not to leave crumbs because they'd be a bitch to clean up. Emily kissed you, the chocolate still on her tongue and you just kept smiling out of her sweet kisses.

You insisted upon bringing the plates to the sink, as she'd gotten them out. "Hey, pretty girl, I think I'm gonna go to bed," you said, rounding the corner. She was already asleep on the couch. How could she do that? She must have been exhausted.

You decided to leave her there, she seemed so peaceful. "Night, angel," you whispered.
