saiyr yawned as she looked around the airport once more, checking her apple watch and noting the time. kyian was late and she was irritated to say the least. she had just touched down in california and she just wanted to go home and curl up in her bed but her brother was taking his own damn time. she felt her phone vibrate in her - shareef's - hoodie pocket. she took it out and rolled her eyes at the contact. "ky, where are you! i'm tired and i want to sleep." she heard him chuckle and her irritation mounted. he must think i'm joking. "kyian jamal, where are you?" ky must've sensed that saiyr was in no mood to joke around and answered immediately. "i'm coming towards you right now. look up." she looked up and saw him walking towards her with a fair light-skinned woman trailing behind him. considering she had seen her on ky's instagram page, she knew that it was milan. she stood up when ky got to her, handing him her bags and walking away. "no "hi, ky. i missed you" or anything?" she glanced back at him and shook her head. "i would've said that if you were early. i've been waiting for almost 2 hours kyian." she heard him sigh as he trailed behind her. "i'm sorry sis, I got held up." she hummed and looked sideways at milan, who was quiet by kyian's side. "whatever."

they reached his car and saiyr immediately headed for the passenger seat. had she been fully aware, she would've noticed the look milan sent ky who shrugged and headed to the driver's side, which caused her to huff and get in the back. they buckled in and headed out the airport. ky turned on his r&b playlist and it played in the background as the three people sat in silence. saiyr looked at ky, who was driving absentmindedly and then glanced at milan who was tapping away on her phone. she looked at ky again. "tiana texted me." she saw ky glance at her and watched him nod, mind processing the information. "what did she say?" "she apologized for everything. she said she never meant to do all that and she asked if we could keep in touch." ky nodded, hand tapping on the steering wheel. "i'm glad. i know she missed you." she blinked and processed ky's words. "how would you know?" they stopped at a red light and ky looked at her, attention focused on her. "we talk. she mentioned how she missed your friendship and everything." he looked back to the road and drove when the light turned green. saiyr looked at her brother in thought, analyzing his behavior. she wondered, and not for the first time, if ky and tiana had more than just a fuck buddies relationship like he had claimed to them. "she mentioned you guys made up." she watched him for a reaction and was intrigued as his eyes glossed over, as if in thought. "yea, we talked. went to lunch after she invited me out and we talked things through." saiyr's face blanked as she saw a look overcome kyian. a look she had seen before. one that was shared between her parents, one that was shared between omar and kendra and one she shared with shareef.

love.

the three returned to the daniels family home and saiyr was happy to see it. although she loved spending time with shareef, she had also missed her family. they exited the car and kyian grabbed her bags, following behind his sister. the three individuals entered the house and saiyr was immediately knew her mother was cooking with the way the aroma drifted through the air. the nineteen year old made her way to the kitchen, where she saw her mom cutting up some vegetables and humming while her youngest brother sat by the counter with his laptop out, focused. she sneakily walked over to her mom and hugged her from behind. "now who is this?" she giggled as her mom turned, angling herself to get a better view at saiyr. she saw her mom smile, a grin stretching across her face. "it's my baby!" london moved away from saiyr briefly to wipe her hands and hug her daughter properly. "i missed you so much dove." her mom was the only one who called her by that name. she never knew why but she always loved it because it made her feel special. saiyr was enveloped in another set of arms and knew it was amari because he wore a certain cologne that she had come to identify as a scent that she associated with his presence. "hey mari." she mumbled into his hoodie, hugging him tightly. "hey saisai." very rarely did amari call saiyr by that name. when he was younger, he wasn't able to fully pronounce her name and just called her the shortened version with his own twist. he only called her that now when he hadn't seen her in a long time or when he missed her or when he just needed the comfort of his older sister. the two separated and she was given hugs by her siblings and dad, who had been informed by kyian that she was home.
