the week after saiyr's birthday, shareef was a mess. his girlfriend of almost two months had drunkenly told him he loved her on the night of her birthday and seemed to have no recollection of what happened after their group had left the restaurant. he wanted to bring up what happened but had no clue as to how. he still needed to figure out if his own feelings were genuine and that what he was feeling, was actually love. he did know, however, that he was feeling saiyr and he knew that those feelings would develop into love eventually. for now though, he was feeling pretty shitty considering he hadn't spoken to sai since they came back from the maldives.

a knock sounded through his bedroom and before he could call out to whoever to leave him alone, his sister amirah entered and closed the door behind her. "why are you out here pouting? you look ugly." she laughed while shareef mugged her. he watched as she took a seat at the edge of his bed and sighed. she wasn't leaving until he talked to her. "what's wrong with you?" "there's nothing wrong." he shrugged and amirah looked at her older brother skeptically. "why you lying? something must be wrong because you came back from your vacation all sad looking and i've barely seen you on your phone. is it your girlfriend, samira or something? she did something?" shareef looked at amirah and sighed. "first of all, her name is saiyr. second of all, she didn't do anything. i've just been thinking lately so i kinda wanted some space." amirah raised an eyebrow at shareef. although she had yet to meet his girlfriend, she could tell shareef really liked her, which raised the question on what he was so afraid of? "you love her, don't you?" shareef's heart fluttered when he thought about it and he thought maybe his sister was right. "it's too early though." "love doesn't have a time limit, reef." she was right and damn, did he feel stupid that he didn't realize it sooner. shareef stood up quickly and grabbed his car keys. "uh, where are you going?" amirah asked her brother as he made his way to the door.

"to the love of my life."

something special blasted through the speakers of shareef's range rover as he made his way to saiyr's house. stopping at the light, he put in her number and watched as the call rang.

and rang.

and rang.

and rang.

just as he was about to end the call, saiyr answered his call.

"hello?" his heart melted at the sound of her voice. damn, i missed her

"hey baby." his deep voice caused sai's heart to skip a beat. she missed him so much this past week. since coming back from the maldives, shareef had been distant and had stopped communicating with her on sunday.

it was wednesday now and she was worried she had done something to upset him. or maybe it was because she had told him she was in love with him the night of her birthday. contrary to what shareef might've thought, she did remember what she said but she didn't tell shareef the following days because he might've not felt the same way she did and him not talking to her seemed to prove that.

"shareef, what do you want?" ouch. okay he deserved that. he hadn't spoken to his girlfriend for three days now and acted distant leading up to it. he was feeling like shit because of how he acted instead of talking it out with her.

"i'm sorry. for ignoring you this past week and not talking to you these three days. i was afraid and it doesn't excuse the way i acted but i just wanna talk it out, baby." he was pulling up into her neighborhood now.

"where are you?" "outside the gate."

damn, he was serious then.

shareef could hear some shuffling through the phone and male voice that he knew that didn't belong to her brothers or dad mutter: "where are you going?" who was that? he wondered as he heard sai faintly reply "outside" before he could hear a door shut and the beep of the call dropping. he waited until he heard the gate opening and sai stepping out in sweatpants, sports bra and slides with her hair short too. damn my baby looks good. she opened the car door and got in before shutting it. "you look good, baby." she smiled and thanked him. although she was mad, she loved it when shareef complimented her, even when she was dressed so simple. "when did you do your hair?" "about two days ago." he nodded and sighed. "i can't apologize enough about the way i treated you. you didn't deserve that from me and i should've talked things out with you." she nodded. to be honest, she was relieved they were talking it out and he was apologizing for how he acted. she also had to apologize for not attempting to talk things through and instead let them fester. "it's okay, i didn't address what i said that night because i was scared of how you'd react. i didn't know how you felt so i just left it." shareef looked into saiyr's eyes and could practically see the love reflecting back at him. it was crazy to him how she made him feel in just a short amount of time but he knew without a doubt that he-

"i love you."

saiyr felt everything slow down around her and only her and shareef were moving at normal speed. "i love you with my whole being and i was so afraid of telling you because i wasn't sure but now i am. i love you so much, saiyr nadine daniels." saiyr smiled with tears welling up in her eyes and kissed shareef. the kiss was slow yet full of passion and love. they pulled apart before saiyr whispered:

"i love you too, shareef rashaun o'neal."

the two basked in their love for each other for a while before shareef remembered something.

"who was that, asking you where you were going?" shareef was curious on who it was since he remembered that darius and monique had gone back to college and he knew amari had school around this time. "oh that was my brother."

"amari didn't go to school?"

"no, that was khalil. my half-brother."
