tiana fidgeted as she watched people pass by the window of the restaurant. she was nervous of the meeting that was going to occur and she hated the feeling. she wished she could muster the confidence she had a few months ago but that was gone now. it was crazy how she had everything a few months back, now no one wanted to fuck with her. not even her friends. she knew she had messed up when she had posted that picture on her gram. when she let bitterness and jealousy fill her heart. she wished she could take it back but she knew she couldn't. she just wanted forgiveness and the first step to forgiveness started with the man that was now walking in the restaurant. ky nodded at tiana and sat down opposite her. she couldn't meet his eyes because she knew she would feel the guilt eating away at her even more.
"you called me here but you can't even look me in the eyes?" tiana looked up and locked eyes with kyian. he was watching her coolly, eyes taking in everything that had changed about her. she looked so timid and small, like she wanted to be anywhere but where they were currently at. gone the cocky girl with a confidence that shone through a room. this wasn't the tiana that would playfully shove him when they were playing 2k or sing to him after sex, voice confidently ringing out. she looked like a shell of who she used to be and ky felt uncomfortable, not knowing how to deal with this woman in front of him.
"you're right. i'm sorry for doing so, i know how much you can get busy." her voice was soft and tinged with her accent, trying to look everywhere but into his eyes. giving up, she locked eyes with him and her throat felt tight. "i'm sorry for the drama i caused you, kyian. i never meant for any of that. truly." she paused as the waiter came up to the table. "good afternoon, my name is jason and i'll be your waiter for this afternoon. would you like to take a few minutes to decide on the menu?" he waited patiently for the two who blinked owlishly at him before agreeing. once he was out of earshot, ky turned back to tiana who was already staring at him.
"so what, you think some apology is supposed to fix things or something?" his voice was agitated and his jaw clenched, thinking back on the incident. what tiana did was foul but he sort of understood where she was coming from. although he never did what he's currently doing for milan, he still treated her good. always made sure she was good, that she had groceries or that she wasn't behind on her school fees. contrary to what others thought, tiana was not rich by any means. she was at university on a partial scholarship that provided for her living arrangements and paid some of her school fees off. kyian had always looked out for her and she felt lost when he wasn't anymore. right now she was doing some modeling gigs to pay off her fees but she slowly felt like she was drowning and she wanted to give up so bad. "i know my apology probably means nothing to you but i just had to say something." he continued looking at her, searching her eyes before nodding. he turned to his menu and she knew that the discussion was over. whether she was forgiven or not, was completely up to him.
they ordered their food and talked here and there. at times the conversation was stilted and awkward but at other times, fond memories were exchanged. her asked her about her modelling and she told him about her currently being the face of an up-and-coming makeup line and he smiled, proud of her. she asked about football and practice and he told her about all the stories that went down during practice that made her laugh until her stomach hurt. after he paid the bill, her walked her out to wait for the uber he had requested for her. "listen, although you did all that shit that you did, i have missed talking to you. don't be afraid to hit me up if you need help, tee." her stomach fluttered at the nickname he always called her before she stomped them out. "i will. thank you again, ky." he nodded and watched as the uber approached, hesitating before deciding to fuck it and hug her. she was surprised but she welcomed the hug. they pulled back and he opened the door for her, watching her get inside. "ay, don't forget to post that picture okay?" she nodded and laughed, saying goodbye to him. he watched as the uber pulled off before heading to his car, shaking his head. he got in and sighed. being around tiana again made the feelings he had tried to push away come back. he had lied to his family when he said she meant nothing to him because once upon a time, she meant everything.
