saiyr's phone buzzed on her nightstand and she blindly reached for it, senses groggy and filled with sleep. "hello?" she should've glanced at her caller id but she could also care less. "sai, it's omar. i'm at the hospital right now- ken's water broke about three hours ago. she's doing okay but i just wanted you to know." saiyr bolted up, sleep slowly leaving and a small dose of panic filling her at the news. "what hospital?" she put her phone on speaker and hurriedly open her closet, pulling out sweats and a hoodie - it belonged to shareef - before stripping her pjs as omar relayed the information to her. she put on her fluffy ugg slides and grabbed her phone, remembering that she still had her scarf on but deciding to say fuck it and carry on with it. she entered the living room and picked up her car keys before heading to candace's room and walking in.
the light she had switched on in the living room filtered through the dark room and illuminated candy with her boyfriend wrapped up around her. she shook candy softly who groaned, swatting away at the hand. "if you're here to rob me, just rob me man. i'm too tired to care." saiyr stifled a laugh and shook her again. "candy, i'm going to the hospital, okay? kendra's giving birth." although in the abyss of sleep, candace heard saiyr and nodded. "phone me when she's given birth." sai whispered a small "okay" before heading for the door and closing it softly. sai ran to her car and entered it, putting on her seatbelt, putting the key in the ignition and taking off.
although it was 20:30, the streets had a few cars on them meaning that she got to the hospital relatively quickly. remembering omar's instructions on how to get to the room, she quickly made her way to the front lobby but it seemed like the receptionist was bent on giving her a hard time. "i'm sorry ma'am but i can't let you go through. not only is it not visiting hours but you're not on the list for visitors." the nurse fixed her with a look that reeked of attitude and saiyr quickly got annoyed.
"ma'am i'm trying to tell you where i'm going- if you would just look at the list for omar daniels, you'll find that i'm there." the receptionist looked at her skeptically and started typing on her computer, eyes scanning the screen before halting and looking at saiyr. "saiyr daniels?" sai nodded and she was handed a visitors pass. "i'm sorry for the inconvenience, ma'am." although her smile was fake, saiyr nodded and made her way to the maternity suite that omar said they would be occupying.
when saiyr entered the suite, she first saw her mom and dad in the sitting room area and smiled, heading to hug them both which they welcomed. "hey sweetie, it's good to see you." her mom gently rubbed her back as she hugged her before releasing her and moving her to her dad who did the same before kissing her forehead. "how's kendra?" "she's okay so far. her and omar are with their doula, simone." saiyr nodded and sat down, noticing khalil was absent. "where's khalil?" "bathroom." she nodded and stood up, deciding to go the room that occupied kendra. she slid the door open and smiled when three heads moved to her direction. "hey sis." omar hugged her immediately as she made her way over to the bed kendra was on. "hey, how are you?" he smiled nervously and shrugged. "nervous but otherwise happy my princess is about to arrive."
her heart warmed at the pure happiness radiating from omar. she knew how much he wanted this and how much he was excited to meet his daughter. "and you ken? how are you feeling?" she turned her attention to kendra who smiled weakly, her hand gripping her doula. "in pain but i know it'll be worth it." sai nodded at that, she knew without a doubt that omar and kendra would make good parents. she stayed with them for a while before heading out to the sitting room, seeing khalil sitting on one of the couches and deciding to mess with him, she rushed up to him and jump on top of him. he grunted and mushed saiyr's head away from him. "get off man!" her laughter echoed in the room and she heard her parents chuckle at their antics, the tension that was there easing.
