It's been a month since Peter gained his spider powers. Ben and he had been practicing with controlling his sticking ability and newfound strength. Peter actually crushed his door knob the first night back. That had been a hard one to explain to May. Luckily, Ben had it fixed soon after so they were working on his control. Peter had just begun to handle small items like a glass without crushing it.

"Good job Peter. That's one step closer to controlling the strength completely."

Peter smiled at his Uncle's praise and gently sat the glass back down on the counter.

"Hey Peter, do you want to go out and get ice cream, just the two of us since today's my off duty day? It is Sunday after all. You can have a Sunday sundae."

Ben smiled at his joke and Peter laughed.

"Sure, as long as I don't get a cone. I'd just accidentally crush the cone."

Peter and Ben left the apartment and went to the closest ice cream shop. Peter got a plain caramel vanilla sundae while Ben got a vanilla cone. Peter and Ben sat in the corner booth and enjoyed their ice cream. They finished their ice cream and slowly strolled back to the apartment, but before they could make it, tragedy struck. Peter heard loud shots coming from across the street.

Ben grimaced and said "Stay down, stay here, and don't come out of cover until I come for you. I love you, I'll see you soon, but I've got to help."

Peter nodded and teared up. He knew his Uncle couldn't stand by when others were in danger. Ben slowly made his way into the store that was being robbed. Scuffles went on for a few minutes. Ben disarmed the person holding the cashier hostage, but he didn't see the second guy behind him. The second guy shot Ben in the chest. Peter screamed. The robbers ran, but the other officers were in pursuit. Peter got up and rushed to the scene. The officers there tried to stop him with no luck. He got through easily using his strength to get out of their arms. He ran to Ben and was weeping profusely.

"Uncle Ben! Ben. No, Ben! Ben. Stay with me. I love you Uncle Ben. Don't go."

Peter cried continuously and Ben rasped to Peter "I love you, take care of May, and remember to always use your abilities for good, don't take advantage of them. I love you..."

Peter wept "I promise Uncle Ben, I promise! I love you!"

Ben died in Peter's arms. Peter cradled his body until he was forced to move. One of Ben's friends on the force came to escort Peter to the Police station.

They had found the shooter, but before they could take him into custody he drew his weapon on them, so he was shot and killed before any information could be gained from him. Peter had been taken to the police station, and May had to come pick him up. She went in with a calm and collected appearance, but everyone knew she was only doing that for Peter's benefit. She knew some of Ben's friends from his work here at the station, and they were doing their best to console Peter, who was not able to be consoled. May hugged him tightly as she sat down beside him. She was teary eyed, but she kept her composure. One of Ben's friends offered to drive them home, but she declined because she had already driven there. May calmed Peter enough where she could get him into the car and home. They got back to their apartment and flocked to the couch. Peter curled up beside May and cried until he couldn't anymore. They stayed together on the couch that night, missing the presence that would never enter their home again.

Norman watched from his spy camera as Peter and May wept. He wanted Ben and May out of the picture, just not like that. He wanted Ben dead, but not in front of Peter, but oh well, at least the job was done. He knew the guy he hired would finish the job and get himself killed as a suicide by cop. The guy had been some deadbeat that needed the money to pay for his daughter's heart surgery. Norman had made sure the man's daughter's medical bills were paid as soon as the man finished the job. Norman lost no sleep over that one. Norman did watch sadly however, as his son fell apart with grief. It would be worth it in the end though. Now all he had to do was dispose of May. He needed a certain someone named Emily Osborn, who would do anything to keep her son alive, for that job.
