Cora Bentley

Clarity may be the reassurance you need,
Or the thing that breaks your heart.

I spent the rest of the night in my dorm. Crying mostly. No one was in the slytherin common room when I got back, which is a good thing. I was sobbing the whole way down to the dungeons.
So that's it then. My best friend is gone. He's really gone. I tried to recall anytime I was ever bad to him.
I couldn't find a single bad thing that I did to him when he first stopped talking to me.
It was now around 2am, my mind refusing to calm, mostly replaying the moonlight night. The night I so desperately wanted to go back to.
Just as I thought I could fall asleep, I heard a faint knock at my door.
Groaning, I got up and went to the door, my eyes stinging and my cheeks hot.
I realized a little too late that I was just in a long t-shirt and underwear, but it was too late cuz the door was already open.
"What are you doing here?" I whispered, trying to avoid eye contact, with her.
"C'mon, don't think I didn't see you start to cry when you left." Pansy said, pushing herself into my room.
I turned back to my bed, falling onto it and stuffing my face in my pillows, begging my tears to stop.
"Wanna talk about it?" She asked, closing the door and sitting on my bed.
I sat up, not bothering to wipe my tears off. "I just- don't understand. He was my best friend! I still don't know what I did wrong. He never told me." I was full on crying now, my tears blurring my vision.
"I'm sorry." She said, pulling me into a hug.
"It's fine Pans. Maybe I can try and get closer with him this year. If he even wants to." I wiped the newly formed tears at the brim of eyes, taking a deep breath.
We talked for about 5 minutes.
"Are you good? It's really late and we have classes tomorrow."
"Oh yeah! Go to sleep. I don't want to be the reason you were late for class tomorrow or something." I fake laughed as she left the room.
I fell back onto my bed, covering my face. Then another knock on my door caused me to jolt up, completely annoyed.
I swung open the door. "What?!" I probably looked a mess. My face was covered in tears and my hair was tangled and matted from tugging at it.
"Woah, Bentley! What happened to you?" Draco laughed, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"As a matter of fact, you." I sniffled, blinking hard to let the remaining tears fall out.
He face dropped, and he shifted slightly in his position. "What do you mean me?"
"I mean, you're the reason I'm like this." I pointed at his chest, my nostrils overwhelmed by the smell of him.
He scoffed. "What did I do?"
I laughed out of disbelief. "What did you do? You're really funny, Malfoy." I mocked him, attempting to slam my door closed.
His flawless hand stopped the door from closing, pushing it open again.
"What?! What could you possibly want? Seriously...just leave me alone." I couldn't bother closing the door, I just walked back into my room.
