Hermione's POV

It's only been a few hours but the news of Ronald Weasleys backfiring spell had been spread like a virus

Except now people were swapping rumors of their own, here are some examples of what I can hear from some of the people around us

'apparently, his wand didn't backfire but Malfoy hit him with his own curse' – 'no I heard from Wesley himself that he had just faked it to get Parkinson's attention because he likes her' – 'I heard from Romilda vane who heard from lavender brown who heard from Padma Patil that weasel had asked Malfoy to do it to him to get out of potions'

"God, can't any of them tell all that is absolutely preposterous?" I turned back to my friends who seemed to be paying more attention to their food and not me "rude"

30 minutes later and everyone in the castle was walking to their dorms when a year 4 Gryffindor came running towards everyone

"THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON BY MYRTLES BATHROOM, COME QUICK!" obviously everyone ran to myrtles bathroom

When we got there, it wasn't a nice sight

The golden trio, a message written in... blood? On the wall and a dead cat- filches dead cat

Draco decided to talk first, as usual

"enemies of the heir beware" I knew what he was gonna say so I nudged him to stop him, it didn't work "you'll be next mudbloods" I rolled my eyes, why does he have to be so extra all the time?

"what's going on here! Go on, make way, make way" it's filch "potter, what are you..." he noticed the cat "Mrs. Norris? You've... murdered my cat"

potter denied it, you were the only ones here, to anyone who doesn't know what that message means they would think it too

"I'll kill you I'LL KILL YER" he grabbed potter by the collar and looked like he was about to take a swing for the boy before Dumbledore showed up

"argus? Argus I-"

he noticed the message

"everyone will proceed to their dormitories immediately... everyone except you three" everyone started leaving but I hid in a cupboard to hear

"she's not dead argus, she has been petrified"

"ah! Thought so, so unlucky I wasn't there I know exactly the counter curse that could've spared her" Gilderoy Lockhart, the dumbest of the dumb

"but how she's been petrified, I cannot say" I can

"ask him, it's him that's done it. you saw what he wrote on the wall" Filch nodded towards the first male in the trio

"it's not true sir, I swear, I never touched Mrs. Norris" u can swear all you want, Filch isn't gonna think any different

"rubbish!"

"if I might headmaster? Perhaps Potter and his friends were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time" why is Snape standing up for them? "however... the circumstances are suspicious  I for one don't recall seeing Potter at dinner" there it is

"I'm afraid that's my doing Severus you see, Harry was helping me answer my fan mail" I don't know why you even have fans 'Professor'

"that's why Ron and I went looking for him professor, we'd just found him when he said-" I know she's lying, she stopped pretty quickly

"When I said I wasn't hungry" yup they're lying, but about what?

"We were heading back to the common room when we found Mrs. Norris" Gryffindor common room is the other way?

"innocent until proven guilty Severus"

They are lying but not about this, the snake did this but that's what's confusing, why didn't it kill the cat? Why did it petrify her and not kill her? And why are they lying? and why did it go after a cat and not a 'mud blood' first?
Too many questions and not enough answers

"My cat has been petrified I want to see some punishment!" I kinda feel bad for old Filch now

"we will be able to cure her Argus as I understand it madam sprout has a very healthy growth of mandrake when matured a potion will be made which will revive Mrs. Norris" I knew they would have to be used this year, and here we are "and in the meantime" get a new cat? "I strongly recommend caution to all"

I ran back to my common room to find my friends

"GUYS! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT JUST WENT DOWN"
