Chapter 25 // the first trance

Hermione's POV

"Why are they even holding tryouts? Quidditch is canceled, And even if it wasn't it's the middle of the season"

Draco was dragging me to the quidditch pitch, apparently, Slytherin was holding tryouts even though they had no need to

"because three of the players have been banned from playing for the rest of their time here" he reminded "one beater, one chaser, and the keeper"

"I still don't get it, but fine"

"what are you trying out for?" he asked

"chaser, I always beat you at that"

As we got to the pitch I noticed that there were 9 people who wanted to try out, there were only 3 spots which means I have 6 people to beat. Everyone who was already on the team was there to

"right!" flint got our attention

"We have three spots on the team for you to try out for; beater, chaser, and keeper. Everyone who is already on the team come to stand behind me, anyone who's trying out for keeper stand on the right" three people moved to the right in front of flint "anyone who's trying out for beater, stand on the left" three people moved to the left of him "and anyone wanting to try out for chaser stand in the middle" me and two others who I recognized as

Ash Argent: a fourth-year with silver hair, murky brown eyes, a square face and was quite tall.

and

Damon Isaac: the fifth year with black hair, almond dark green eyes, a diamond-shaped face and he was quite muscly

"I will pair a group of each new player with the rest of the team to have a small match to test your abilities then I'll decide and the results will be in the common room tomorrow" he put me with

Daphne Greengrass: Astoria's younger sister in 1st year who was trying out for keeper

and

Katerina Harper: she had a twin called Caroline Harper who was on a different try-outs group she's a third-year with brown long slightly curly hair, green eyes, and seemed kinda snobbish – she was trying out for beater

"Group one – Daphne Greengrass as keeper, Hermione Zabini as chaser, and Katerina or Kat Harper for short as beater. Group two – Caroline Harper as keeper, Ash Argent as chaser, Layton Castillo (sixth year) as beater. Group three – Chris Curtis (third year) as Keeper, Klaus O'Driscoll as chaser, Damon Isaac (fifth year) as beater" despite our group being named 'first' we were put in line for the last group to go

And the first two games weren't exactly... good

Game one was pretty bad - Chris missed almost every goal, Klaus was quite good (which is bad considering I need that spot) Damon missed every bludger he tried to shoot at the opposing team and accidentally fell off his broom, Klaus caught him before he hit the ground but he had scratched his arm on something and now had a large gash on it, he was sent to the hospital wing

Game two wasn't terrible but not good either – Maddie only missed two of the goals, Ash- well I have to admit he was pretty shit to be honest and Layton was actually really good, he was able to hit the bludger back every time it came near him or one of his team mates

Then it got to my game – Daphne was AMAZING she didn't let one goal go through, I think I did pretty well- I scored 7 times, but Beth? Well, let's just say she wasn't terribly good at protecting herself and she is now in the hospital wing with a fractured wrist

"everyone can go back to whatever they were doing, the people who are on the team will be on a piece of parchment in the common room tomorrow" flint announced, after we had finished the games everyone walked back to the common room, except me, I volunteered to put the brooms back

"yea, no it's fine Draco honestly you go back I can handle a few brooms" I took his broom from him and retreated toward the Guys Slytherin changing rooms

I put each broom inside their personal cases (the Slytherin boys felt the need to be special and have their own cases) I huffed as I locked the last case and picked up my own broom to put in the Girls Slytherin changing room and just as I was putting a stray hair behind my ear my head shot up as I saw something

"wish you were here Pansy... we need you, now more than ever"

Potter and Weasley are inside the hospital wing, sitting at Parkinson's hospital bed. Potter was holding Parkinson's cold, paralyzed hand when he noticed a piece of paper, THE piece of paper

"what's that?" Weasel asked Potter

"Ron, this is why Pansy was in the library the day she was attacked... come on!"

I came out of my trance-like thing

"what the hell just happened?" I muttered as I picked up the broom I dropped before my eyes went blurry again

"Ron, this is it. The monster in the chamber of secrets is a basilisk that's why I can hear it speak. It's a snake"

"but if it kills people by looking them in the eyes, why is it no ones dead?" Potter looked confused for a second before realizing

"because no one did look it in the eye... not directly, at least" they started walking again

"Colin saw it through his camera, Justin... Justin must have seen the Basilisk through nearly headless nick, Nick got the full blast of it, but he's a ghost, he couldn't die again and Pansy... had the mirror, I bet you anything she was using it to look around corners in case it came along" Potter has it all figured out

"and Mrs. Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror harry" that's true

"the water, there was water on the floor that night, she only saw the Basilisk's reflection" they walked toward the fire to get a better lighting " 'spiders flee before it, it all fits!"

"But how's the Basilisk been getting around? A dirty great snake, someone would have seen it" Potter showed him the corner I had written on

"Pansy's answered that too"

"pipes? It's using the plumbing?" he looked around as if it would pop out of a wall

"remember when Aragog said about that girl 50 years ago? She died in a bathroom, What if she never left?"

"Moaning Myrtle"

I was brought out of my trance again but not by the clattering of the broom I dropped like before, but by McGonagall's voice booming through the halls, I had somehow found my way back inside the castle

"ALL STUDENTS ARE TO RETURN TO THEIR HOUSE DORMITORIES AT ONCE, ALL TEACHERS TO THE SECOND FLOOR CORRIDOR IMMEDIATELY"

As I think you already know, I did not go to the dungeons. But the second floor

It can't be that bad

basically, Curtis and Isaac are the last names of the two girls who bullied me in school when I was younger so I decided to give them shit in a quidditch game :) lmao
